I'll renew my AP sometime in the next few weeks. Here's my question: will I/can I get a new physical pass? My original is two years old at this point and the barcode is fading fast.

You can trade it in for a new one any time at the ticket booths. Just tell them it isn’t scanning right.

I keep mine in my pocket and end up replacing it like once or twice a year, especially if it gets wet a lot.

Hey Wonka, do you have a DAP or a higher level? I know you go mostly on Sundays. Just thinking about Sunday blackouts at DL next summer.

I have Signature. The only time I'm blocked is for two weeks at Christmas. I'm home in Chicago then anyway so it makes no difference to me :-).

I didn't know that! We've had ours going on several years and they're all scratched up and barely scan. Each time we renew though, they say something about if we didn't have our cards we would be charged $20 each for reprints. So if you trade, you're fine?

Yup! As long as you have your card, you’re fine. Mine wouldn’t read in the FP machine a few years ago and the CM told me to go and trade it in, and I’ve now traded mine in several times and my daughter’s on her 3rd one in two years. No one’s ever batted an eye.

Yeah, I recall being told something like that too. Seems a little stingy. Those cards can't cost more than about 30¢
It is more about having duplicates floating around of all these passes. If everyone could reprint because they forgot their pass at home a mile away, there would be longer lines at the ticket booth, and a lot of excess cards out there. But $20 tends to make people look harder to find their passes before just jumping in line for a cheap reprint....

yes....that is what I think about those grocery store discount cards, one issue and then you have to use the phone number on the germ laden key pad, then you touch your face and susceptible to any floating virus..for what, a 30 cent plastic card.....that the casino issues new membership cards to me every month because the bar code is no longer working.

We said the exact same thing! We didn't even get the renewal discount one time, because it was outside our window. We thought we would just get new passes, since we weren't technically renewing and had bought three new annual pass vouchers via Disneyland.com. Nope, she said she was going to be charging us $20/each if we couldn't produce the old passes. Luckily we had brought them with us just in case back at the hotel, but thought geez...

That makes sense. Still frustrating, but it makes sense.

This isgood to know. The ink on my son’s pass was faded from the get go. Bad print job. I keep worrying that it’s going to stop scanning some day.

The last time we renewed, the CM at the booth noticed that DH's AP was looking pretty shabby with the bar code almost scratched off. She offered to replace it on the spot for free. :)

That is bananas!
No more renewal discount now though. :-( a lot more people will be letting the expire and buying on their next trip. I hope they aren’t going to charge everyone for a new card months later.

Can this be done at the park gate or do I have to go to the ticket booth?

They can’t print AP’s at the gate. BUT if the ticket booth lines are long we go over to the guest relations window to the left of the DL gates. Sshhhhh!! Never a line ever and they will happily help. I’ve been doing that for years.

Good to know. Thanks!

At the booths or, as the pp noted, at Guest Relations. We go to the booths at night after leaving the parks. The lines usually are short at that time, and we don't bake in the sun while waiting. Plus, if we have any questions, the CMs have more time to answer then.

Thanks everyone! I picked up my spanking-new AP at Guest Relations just outside of the park gates. The whole process took about two minutes (there was no line). There was also no charge. My new pass looks great!
