The AP I purchsed with my DVC discount is expiring this month. I understand that if I RENEW it, I will get the DVC renewal rate and that it becomes active immediately...my question is...if I am not going to be visiting until May, would I be better off letting the pass exire and purchase it again in May? Will I still get a discount on another purchase if I buy a new AP or is the DVC discount a one shot deal?

Any insights would be appreciated!

Thanks! :)

IMO, the $30 (approx) savings between a new DVC AP & a DVC AP renewal is not worth 3-4 months.

I would just buy a new one in May.

As a matter of fact, that is what I am doing. Kids PAP's expired 1/28 right after we came home from MLK week. Next trip is mid-May. Will just buy them new PAP's once we arrive.

the discount to renew now vs new later is not worth it if you lose 2/3 months of use. I would buy new .
We use ours for 3 trips per yr. then buy new just before our next trip.
The DVC discount is good till Disney decides to drop it.
You can buy a new one now if your worried about Disney stopping the discount. It will be a voucher you can activate on your next trip.:goodvibes

Well, it would depend on when your current APs expire. If they expire in April, well then the savings would probably be decent (think 1/12th of a year, or 8.75% discount, or not as good as the 10% Renewal Discount). If they expire in Febrary or March, however, it strikes me that you're spending money for time you aren't going to be there; better to extend next year's APs further into 2008.

:teacher: Figure what percentage of the year between current AP expiration and your next visit in May, and if it's less than 10%, then go with the Renewal discount. Otherwise, just buy new ones in May.

In our case, our APs expire February 21st (the day we're leaving WDW for Vero), and we're not planning on returning until February 2008; so clearly, we are not taking adantage of the 10% renewal discount.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone! I had a feeling not renewing and purchasing a new one in May would make more sense and all of your input supports that!

Thanks again and HAPPY PLANNING!

:thumbsup2
