Will I get a new magic band when I renew my AP? I realize my current band will still work but i'm wondering how frequently Disney replaces them for AP holders?

Yes, you can order a new Magic Band. However you can't order the Band until you have physically used the Band in the Parks.

Also, included with the new AP MB will be a new Discount Card showing the new expiration date.

I guess that's another question. Currently, we just show our RFID AP cards to get our discounts. We did receive the discount card last year but I never saw the point in using them.

The yellow discount card gets the discount not the RFID ticket. I always get strange looks from the CM when I give them the wrong ID Card. I always wrong stupid card. The RFID only gets you into the park and use for FP's.

I renewed my pass online because my next trip is four days after the current one expires. I have already received my new MB and discount card.

I guess I keep getting to dodo's that don't remember that an AP gets a discount. They want to see the yellow discount card for me to get it. At least 2x I heard that they can't give it to me because I don't have it. I should have them call for a MGR to override it since it all should be on 1 card like it used to be before they downgraded their system.

When we renewed this year, you weren't getting the new Magic Band and discount card shipped to you until after you activated the AP at a park. So they printed an RFID AP for me to use for discounts. My old gold discount card had already expired when I activated the renewal.

We just activated our very first APs on Monday. We were given an RFID card with Passholder printed on it. Never had an issue getting the discount by showing that card for the two days we were there. We were able to order our AP bands on MDE on Monday too.

We've been on and off AP holders for 10 years and have never received a "yellow discount card". Most recently we purchased (not a renewal) APs in July. We're not big shoppers though, so I don't remember ever using the discount. Like I said, we don't really buy stuff there, but what little we do buy I should use this, lol, but I have no desire to carry another card. How strange that we've never gotten one. :confused3

Edited to add I notice it's mainly folks in Florida that are mentioning the yellow discount card. Maybe it's just the Florida residents APs that need/get the yellow card? (But one user's post says VA...hmm...)

Before the magic bands, you had to show the actual pass to get the discount. The yellow cards are new.

Yes but I've had an AP and a magic band and no yellow discount card.

We had magic bands and APs in the past two separate years (but with no renewal because we let it lapse in between), and no discount card. We do have the RFID card, of course.

We most recently purchased APs June 29th--you're saying it is "newer "than that?

I got the yellow discount card when I ordered my AP magic band last spring. The yellow discount card was on the bottom of the box, underneath the cardboard. Is it possible you missed it?

Inside the box under the cardboard? Why on earth would they put it under there? It never occurred to me to do anything to the box other than pull the band out and put it on. We have three magic band boxes here somewhere, will have to tear them apart to see, I guess. Thanks

Edited to add I just tore apart all the magic band boxes we had--turns out we had four--and nothing in the bottom under the cardboard that holds the bands except directions. Weird. Maybe they know we don't shop, lol.

I have had three MB AP sets sent to me. All have had the cards in them at the bottom of the box. They only started giving the cards with the advent of MB’s.

Gold Card = Parking & Discounts
Black Card (season passes so for those of us that are FL res) = Discounts only.

Mine was in the middle of the cardboard sleeve where the bands sit it. It was in the same area as the blue passholder tag ons that goes on the bands.

AP Passholder Discount Cards only began in the last year. They are only supposed to accept this card for discounts along with a photo ID that matches the name on the card. Prior to these cards they used your actual AP Pass and a photo ID, but at some point I expect all CMs to follow this protocol. They aren't printing these without reason, they expect them to be used to keep anyone but the AP holder from obtaining discounts and parking.

The difference is that your -
AP has your AP number, a notation if you have parking but that is usually dated like mine says "Parking 2013-1024" even though my pass expires in 2015 AND no ticket holder name. I could actually give this to someone and they could use it to get free parking and discounts inside if my signature were unreadable or first names matched on ID. I could also continue to get discounts even if expired if within the two year span printed (for parking). All GR did was have us print our first name on the card.

Discount Card has my full name printed so it must match the ID provided, notation if parking is included and the exact expiration date of my AP which would also mean no more discounts or parking. This card could not easily be used by anyone because my name is printed on it. This would also allow you to leave your AP behind if using the MagicBand and only carry the discount card, which lost could not easily be used by others for perks like your AP could.

This may in time change if they add the technology at ticket booths to add your name and expiration date to AP RFID tickets.

Here are some photos to show how your box should have looked and where the additional information & Discount Cards can be found. Our blue AP slider tags were actually tucked in the inside of our MagicBands.

I do have an AP discount card, but even on the passholder FAQ website it states that its use is not required.

Q.
I am an Annual Passholder with a MagicBand, a Passholder card and a Passholder discount card. What should I bring to the Walt Disney World theme parks?
A.
Please bring either your Passholder card or both your MagicBand and Passholder discount card—along with a valid photo ID, such as a driver’s license or passport.

Your Passholder card enables you to access your Passholder entitlements—including theme park admission, food and merchandise discounts and parking, if your pass includes parking.

You can also customize your MagicBand and have it shipped to your home. Your MagicBand can be used for theme park admission and FastPass+ service. In addition, you will receive a Passholder discount card that may be used to identify you as eligible for Passholder discounts on food and merchandise. You can also present your Passholder discount card to identify you for parking, if your pass includes parking.

Either your Passholder card or Passholder discount card must be presented—along with a photo ID—at the time of purchase, when you book and when you redeem any Passholder offer.

Additionally, all theme park Guests can now make same-day, same-park FastPass+ selections at our in-park kiosks.

MagicBand orders cannot be shipped to all countries.
