AP Rates are out past August 14

Disney said last year that they want to "wean" people off the expectation of discounts. The way they're going, the only thing they're weaning me off is the desire to have an AP.

Which could be their intention . . .They want to sell the all inclusive packages where they can hide what you're paying for individual items and make it look like you're getting a great deal. Maybe you are, maybe you aren't, but they are counting on the fact that maybe you won't bother to do the math and just take their word for it.

I have an AP because I'm a local. I stay on property if the discount is good enough. But I have too much vacation time to plan out to pay anything close to rack rate. If the rates are too high, I'll spend my vacation time elsewhere. It's pretty sad when I can take a solo cruise at 200% of fare, and it's still less than spending the same amount of time at a Disney resort (figuring just the room rate and food).

I've got two more bounceback trips to go this year, and then we'll see what happens.

You could be right. But then they'll lose me. I don't do the dining plan, no matter what it costs - just doesn't work for the way we like to eat. So I'm always doing room-only. If I can't get a reasonable price on a resort, I'll go elsewhere, and do Disney only when the kids in the family insist. I'm not local, so it's no bargain for me.

Will be interesting to see how this strategy works for Disney. They've already priced me out of paying full price for the dining plan in 2012, and now the room rates aren't so great. Guess I should be glad I like Pop, even though I really like POFQ and a few of the deluxes. There are too many other things I can do with my money since I basically just sleep and shower in my resort room.

Where exactly did Disney say this? Not doubting you but would just like to know the source.
There were some press releases around this time last year, ironically enough just before they released the 2011 free dining dates. If you search for some older threads you might be able to find the discussions.
