My DH and I are planning our 2nd Disney trip for the end of next May/beginning of June. We are interested in getting APs if not for both at least 1 of us since we hope to return for my birthday in October '08 for MNSSHP. We've never been to one of the "parties" Disney offers. Were wanting to make sure that by buying the AP we won't be loosing the money. We want to save some money. So my question is: What were the AP rates like this past May/June? How much did a room cost and where?

TIA!

I guess it matters to everyone individually. I saved $200 this May and I'm returning in September and saving another $200. I'm even considering upgrading to the Wilderness Lodge for $140 AP rate...not bad.

I did get the DDE for an additional $65 and the saving of 20% for meals was well worth it too. But thats for me.

Sounds like you and your DH are in a similar situation as me and mine.
We are heading to WDW this August and will be going back in Oct. for my borthday!

We are going to purchase 2 APs.

Our perspective is this: the AP pays for itself if you visit WDW more than 11 days a year (I think that is right). So we are going for 7 days this time around, 3 in October and plan on maybe a March and definitely a next summer trip. So we are taking the savings on park admission tickets. We did not take advtange of the AP room discount, because we added the dining plan and you cannot "stack discounts" as I have learned on this website. (We enjoy the dining plan and consider it a big enough savings that we selected that route instead of utilizing AP room rates).

All of that being said, we were able to get a nice discount on our room for August anyway using a public discount code, saving us $332.

We also know that AP room rates are not guaranteed, so we are looking at the AP pass as a way to save money on park admissing and get discounts at some Downtown Disney shops.

I hope that helps and was not too hard to figure out! It makes sense to me as I type it!

Stacey~ I had no idea you could get the dining plan with the AP. You learn something new every day! Since we will be visiting hopefully at least twice in a year the AP would save us money in admissions also. Not to mention we can get them from SOG thanks to the military :) Some days you love them and some days you don't. I guess I just really need to sit down and compare prices a little more before we make any final decisions. There's just so many options! Thanks for the input. Maybe we'll see you in October. We're actually combining my birthday with our anniversary.

I really had to spend a lot of time crunching numbers to come up with the best solution for us.

I should point out that the only way you can get the dining plan with an AP is if you also purchase a 1-day Magic Your Way ticket. Which we did. That also enabled us to get the public discount late last week. Anyway, the cost of that 1-day ticket can always be applied to the purchase of your AP (this time around or if you renew your AP next year, as long as you do not use the ticket.)

I hope that helps!
