AP rate at DL Hotel before purchasing AP?

Planning on a Disneyland trip next week, and we decided we'll buy annual passes. I generally like to purchase tickets in person when we go to Disneyland, and will plan on doing so again.

I know AP holders get a discount at the DL Hotel, so I was wondering how I should approach this. If I book the hotel at the regular rate, and then get my AP before checking in, will they apply the discount?

Whoops, couple more questions.

(1) I didn't realize current AP holders could check rates. Would someone mind checking the AP rates for a standard view room at the DL Hotel for Sep 1 - Sep 3, 2014? Regular rates are $269/nt (before tax) according to the website.

(2) My plan is to buy the AP as soon as we arrive, before we even actually enter the park. I was thinking of parking at Downtown Disney, walking to the main gate ticket booths, purchase the AP, and then head over to the hotel to check-in. Is this a sound plan? If the hotels offer some leeway (for example if I don't have to show AP at check-in, just maybe within 24 hours or something), then I could check-in first THEN go get AP that night when I enter the park.

Just call and ask for/book the AP Rate, and then either at check in, or some time before you check out, you'll stop at the desk, and show them the Annual Pass in order to secure the AP Rate!

The AP rates and available days from the DLR website and the available days and rates from "special offers" (like the AP late-summer offer) are from different buckets, so to speak. We just booked a late-summer AP offer for the end of September at DLH for rates and days that had no availability at all on the AP hotel discount page.

When I checked for countofmc, all I did was look at the rate calendar---didn't think to click on the dates!

When the dates are clicked on, the better/cheaper offer does come up!

Great, sounds good! Do I have to call to get these rates, or can I just book online at the regular rates and then ask them to apply the discounts when I check in with AP passes?

Definitely call. This isn't the AP rate, it's an AP offer that has to be pre-booked, and rooms are limited in any case. (We booked it on the phone, too.)

As I said, this is not an AP Rate. This is an offer--specifically the AP Summer Package offer. That is what OP should ask for. The rates are only for room-only reservations. That's why the cost and availability of the offer differ. It's a separate bucket of rooms. The offer includes two free Fastpasses and a PhotoPass+ attraction photo--that's what makes it a package, and why it's separate.

We're at DLH right now, staying with the AP promotion. I checked in while DH returned the rental car. We didn't need everyone there in order to receive the FPs. We used them on RSR this afternoon.

When we were there last year they had the same promotion going and as soon as I showed my valid AP which I didn't have when I checked in they gave me fastpasses for everyone on the room(s) reservation.
