After some research I can see that an AP will be worth the resort discounts and think I will get one. Now I have to decide which one to get. I was wondering If I get one and I just buy the family regular passes when we eat will all the food be discounted as long as I pay or will everyone need a seperate pass to get the discount even if I am paying. I have a ton more questions about the passes as well - are they photo ID passes that I have to pick up in the park or will they just send them to me. I do not really want to have to stop in the park before checking into the hotel to get my pass so I can prove I am a APH. And if I buy the more expensive ap then it says I get 15% off other tickets. Can I use that right away to buy the rest of the family's tickets? I did ask soem of these questions on the resort board but thought I would throw them in here too. Is that even allowed? Sorry if I am doing something wrong. We are thinking of going the last week of March and I really need to get things figured out. Thanks

The AP's are photo ID passes. Your hotel will probalby give you some tiem after check in to get your credentials in order. I am not sure if you can use the pass to get the discount before you have it :confused3 . If you are looking at the online bonus ticket, you don't get a discount on that. You can get the discount if you buy tickets from the gate or concierge. You can use on AP to get discounts for your whole table.

no matter how you purchase your AP, you'll get a pass to enter the park. then you go and have your picture taken and pass printed. if you buy your Ap at the window, you're an AP passholder. if you buy it online, you receive an eticket proving you're an AP passholder. you can show your eticket at the parking gates to receive free parking that day. but I'd advise walking into the gates, going straight to vacation services and processing your AP. it's just easier.

edited...you don't have to show your AP at the resort right away. but you'll have to produce it during your stay or else your Visa bill shoots through the roof. :) UO resort TM's are as nice as you'll find anywhere.

my advice is to buy your AP online. you have advance confirmation you have it.
I don't know if you can use your AP in advance to receive the 15% ticket discount. I believe you have to redeem your pass and show it at the ticketing window that day. because that's the day the AP becomes effective.

Phamton, where are you? :)

Just an fYi for missmolly...I ordered my AP thru costco.com. Its the same price 179.99$, but its good for 15 months.

Thanks for the info. So I guess I just need one AP, now I just have to decide which one to get. We will only be there the one time for 4 nights. If the $119 one gets me the discount on the room I would have to still save over $60 to make the other pass worth it. I still have to pay parking with the $119 pass right?

if by the $119.00 one... that's the power pass. that one just gets you into the parks on non-blackout days. there are no discounts with the power pass.

Miss Molly,

The power pass will not get you the great room rate price. For that you the the annual pass ($179). You still have to pay the $10/day parking price at the hotel. The free parking is if you are using the parking garage at Universal.

Thanks everyone - you are all very helpful. And I just thought I would mention that I checked costco and they had a 3 Mo pass for $85.That would save me a little more if I bought that for my DS. I guess the best deal I can find is to get the AP, buy everyone the other tickets and book the room seperatly - still gonna cost me a small fortune but I guess that's the way we will have to go. DH wants to be onsite and he is the guy with the money, and it's his b-day and our ann. while we will be there so I guess we should do what he wants. I'm a worrier and hate to spend money so I would have been booking $50 offsite hotels. In fact normally we go camping at state forests for $10 a night. This expensive motel thing is killing me!

Yes, it is a bit more expensive than an off-site hotel......BUT so worth it. Not only are you staying at a 4 star hotel but once you have experienced FOTL you will never go back to off-site......trust me :thumbsup2

I know exactly what you mean. when we can get a good deal on a onsite resort room we'll stay the night. we don't even use the FOTL unless the standby is 20 minutes or more. but a hotel room to us is nothing more than a bed for the night. when I see what people on the Dis boards are paying for a week at the grand floridian I want to beat my head against a pole.

but dropping a little extra on your vacation and spoiling yourself in the UO resorts is money well spent.
