I know it's a hit-or-miss for room discounts for AP discounts on rooms, but when do they usually offer the discounts and how far out can you book a room at those discounts? How many rooms can you book at the same time?

I usually check the AP/benefits page on disney.com, but I think it's a few months out that they'll post rates.

That being said, usually a CM can get me a better rate by phone. I tried booking an AP discount recently for March and ended up saving an extra $50/room using whatever spring discount they have right now.

The discounts are up to 40% off, and are often limited to certain resorts, and/or certain dates. The current discounts are 20-40% off for bookings 3/9-6/14 but it's very limited. The previous discounts were released in fall, for bookings through 3/8, and it seemed a much wider range of resorts were offered. I was able to get BCV & Poly in early March for 40% off, but only got 30% off for BC in late March.

You can book 1 room per AP holder age 18+. There have been many discussions on this on The DIS. I guess previously you could book up to 3 rooms per AP holder, but it has recently changed. Unfortunately people have been getting conflicting info from CMs.

Usually the AP rates are for a specific period of time (e.g., between 1/1/12 and 3/1/12 or something like that). So you can only book the reservation after the AP rate has been announced and during the specific period when it's available.

Majority of all our trips have been booked with the AP rate, you just have to jump on it as soon as it comes out. The only big downside is that a lot of the times the discount does not come out until a couple of months ahead of time.

I had no problem booking two rooms under one AP in October, YMMV.
