BG -We have two trips planned coming up. One in Nov and another in Feb.
It's DH, myself and our two kids, then 5 and 1.

My 1 yr old obviously doesn't need a ticket, my DH and I both still have tickets left over on our non-expiration tickets, so I only need to buy my 5 yr old a ticket for the trips.

I think we'd save money buying him an AP instead of two sets of tickets.

But here's my question.... since AP are the same price for child or adult, would it make more sense to get my DS an adult AP? That way we could put reservations in his name to take advantage of AP discounts?

I know we'd have to pay $10/extra each night for the extra "Adult" in the room, but would the savings in the AP room discount be worth it?
Then we could also purchase the TiW card and take advantage of those savings as well right?

I just thought about this, and I had very little sleep last night, so I might not be thinking about this from all sides.

thanks for any insight.

Interesting issue. I have had to show ID when getting my AP. And a lot of times had to show ID with my TiW card. Not to mention....if you want to get a shopping discount, the AP holder has to be the one paying in order to get the discount. That may well be the case with a room discount as well. And to get the TiW discount at meals, the TiW card holder has to be paying the bill. Not so sure your 5 y/o can make all those payments! But, others may have more experience than I in this area.

You have to be over 21 to purchase a Tables in Wonderland card so your DS wouldn't be able to buy it. Since he would be the only eligible member of your party (i.e. the only AP holder) this wouldn't work.

As to whether you could use his AP for room discounts, I honestly don't know :confused3

You could probably also put the value of your and DHs tickets towards APs for the adults. Then you could get the TiW & Discounts :goodvibes

I think the AP holder would have to be the lead name on the reservation and a 5 year old can't be the lead name.

They can only upgrade to AP's if they are within 14 days of first use, even with no expiration.

There's some points in the above that you should note:

A 5 year old child cannot be the lead name on a resort reservation, so you would not be able to use an AP in his name for room discounts.

Use of an AP for merchandise discounts requires presentation of a photo ID. I am not sure they would allow you to purchase items FOR your son discounted on your son's AP. Obviously a 5 year old will not be producing an ID or paying for his own items.

Tables in Wonderland members must be at least 21. A 5 year old could not have a TIW membership in his name.

We had to show ID when my DH and I purchased AP. Granted, you could probably avoid this problem by purchasing online. We bought ours at guest services.

Does this mean that a child AP actually has LESS benefits than an adults AP even though they are the same price? Thinking merchandise discount and parking where you have to show an ID. Are children not entitled to this benefit?

Nope, you have at most 14 days from purchase to upgrade no matter what the original ticket is for and you have to upgrade before the ticket is used up.

Ah well, good to know then :thumbsup2

We don't go nearly enough to get an AP, lol.

Technically the child AP has less benefits than an adult AP though it costs the same. It irritates me, but it is what it is. My DS6 has an AP (I get a combination of TA comp tickets, TA discount tickets, etc. on our trips). Financially it's still worth it to get him the AP because we go so often, but we don't have TIW and I've never attempted an AP room discount and never would for fear of it reverting to rack when we checked in. We were in the gift shop at CR in May and we went to purchase a toy for my son. The CM asked if we were AP holders. I explained my DS was and gave her his AP discount card. I explained it was my understanding that he would have to pay to get the discount and it was ok if she couldn't give it to us. She gave us the discount, but told me they were typically more strict in the parks.

I just go in knowing we aren't going to get the same benefits as adult AP holders. I'll probably get an AP at some point because I would really love TIW!

You get a voucher when you purchase an AP online. You have to exchange it for an actual AP at a ticket booth or at guest services.
