We are AP holders and that includes Memory Maker. Do we need to do anything to activate it prior to arriving (pre-purchase discount vs same day activation made me question this.)

We previously purchased the cd each trip, now I understand that we just download the photos directly to our computer when we get back home, am I correct?

So, we just use Photopass like we always have and claim all of our pictures with memory maker at the end of the trip?

We haven't been to the World for a couple of years - and I'm feeling like a new-b again.

Thanks!

1- you don't need to do anything else
2- yes you just go on and download the pics you want
3- just go about the park however you want. All your photos will be uploaded usually immediately to your MDE. There's no memory maker. The photos will be on your MDE app and the photopass website

You shouldn't need to do anything. We are AP holders who are NOT Photopass "users" and therefore have never taken action. Our photos pop up in MDE... with the rare exception of the Buzz ride, where it seems like it always links someone else's photo.

We've done the occasional odd M&G and they link too.

You shouldn't need to do anything. And the pictures stay in your account for up to a year.

I do wish there was a way to "hide" the old ones so you don't have to see them and they don't download when all I want are the ones from the lastest trip. So far I haven't found a way.

I'll add, you don't need to wait to download until you get home. You can download any photo you want to directly to your cell phone as soon as it appears in your MDE app. So if there's a character meal or ride photo (etc.) that you really like, you can share it via email or social media very easily.

To piggyback on this thread, I'm still a little confused about Photopass versus Memory Maker. I was looking at wdwprepschool's synopsis and it looked like Memory Maker includes Animated Magic Shots and On-Ride videos, which are not included with the AP Photopass perk. The AP Photopass perk includes on-ride photos, Magic Shots, and all static Photopass photos taken while the AP is valid. Is this correct?

No. The animated magic shots and ride videos are included in the AP Photopass perk, too. We got plenty of them last month with our APs.

No..that is all included in the AP as well.

The memory maker and AP photopass are exactly the same except the AP photopass lasts longer at the full year

I'm going to piggyback as well.

I'm heading to WDW on my honeymoon next month & we already have a package with Memory Maker included (bought before I started toying with the idea of a trip next September). We're now planning on upgrading our tickets to an Annual Pass on our first day. Will the $149 for the Memory Maker be included on the upgrade, or is there a way to cancel that before our trip since it should hopefully still be included if any changes are made before 10/17.

I am planning on upgrading to an AP on our first day as well. I am working with a Disney TA and she canceled the Memory Maker from my package before I made the final payment. You will not receive credit towards an AP for the MM purchase. So make sure you cancel it! Have fun!

Thanks for the update!

If you can cancel it then cancel it. If not then you'll need to contact Disney and ask for a refund as the price won't be added toward the AP

I was able to cancel it through the phone. They are refunding it to my credit card. Thanks again everyone!

When I was at WDW last month with my friend who is an AP holder, she was specifically told to touch her AP (not her MagicBand) to the Mickey head below the screen displaying our picture when we got off of each ride. I'm only speculating, but I suppose it may be that otherwise the photos are only automatically linked to the RFID chip in the MagicBand, since MagicBands aren't currently able to be linked to APs??

On an unrelated note, FWIW, I'd type "newbie" instead of "new-b".... When kids these days call someone a "b" it's not a good thing... :D

Photopass is the all the ride, photobooth, photographer photos and videos. It's free for anyone to take a photo at any time... You can purchase the download per photo or Memorymaker is the package deal to download the digital copies. annual pass has the downloads included in the price of the AP, nothing extra to buy. (depending on AP, there is some old aps purchased a year ago that may not have it). they will appear in your MDE app or the website pretty fast (usually within minutes).. you download them via the app or the website. The website has more options for editing and adding some extras to the phoots. Only the AP holder can download edited photos made from their account.

Nothing extra to buy, nothing extra to activate. Just go to the park, get all the photos you want and then download them when your home (or when you want). AP holders the photos will be in your account for a year, and you can download them as long as your AP is valid. If you renew, photos will still be aroudn for a year, nothing gets reset so safe to renew mid-trip.

Probably a silly question, but I'm going to ask it, anyway. With a gold AP and Photopass (DVC), can you have photos you've downloaded from Photopass printed, locally, and if so, how?

You don't get them printed for free but anyone with an activated memory maker get major discounts at the View Stores in the Parks if you use MDE.
95 cents for 4x6s (doubles)
1.95 for 5x7s
3.95 for 8x10s

Any photos that you get with Memory Maker are now yours to keep and download, so you own them. You can take the digital files to any print store and have them printed there (like Walmart).

They are just digital images, store them on something and bring them to your local shop to print. disney also gives you a license you can print and bring saying you have the rights to the photos and can print them.

To piggyback this for a second, we are going to upgrade our tickets to APs when we get there on Sunday. We have two friends that will be there at the same time. I have our MDE accounts linked under family and friends. So they will be able to use my free memory maker and I can download all their pics for them, correct? Same thing as if I had purchased memory maker and was doing a share?

Thanks, Bryan! I really appreciate your response. I had read, in one of these threads, that the only difference between Memory Maker and PhotoPass is that you can't print PhotoPass pictures. I don't know why Disney has to make it so confusing. :worried: It seems like it would have been a lot simpler to just say that AP holders get a year's worth of Memory Maker, free. If it's the same, why call it something different.

Good question, dislovefrommn! That's what I plan to do on New Year's Eve, and I have a group of 15 going. Let's hope someone comes along, soon, to answer your question (and, now, mine). I hadn't even thought about that, till you asked. :flower:
