AP or Free Dining?

Here is our dilemma. We go to WDW at least once a year. We are trying to decide if we want to get an AP or do free dining in November.

Could we book free dining with a 1 day pass and then upgrade to an AP? Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks!

You have to have a minimum of a 2-day pass to book free dining.

I would call and see what the AP rack rates are for rooms during your visit. You may save enough money on the rooms to pay for the AP's.

If you'll definitely be in WDW more than once this year, go for the AP's. You can always pay OOP for dining or simply budget for paying for all meals OOP on this trip.

Price the rooms with an AP discount if avail. when you go. Figure it out to see if it will be a better deal than FD. Usually a Deluxe resort has a better deal with the Room discount, Values are usually better with FD. You do have to get a 2 day pp pass for FD but you can upgrade them to an AP. Also, with an AP you can us TIW food discount card (20% off most TS and a few CS costs 75 and good for up to 10 people on one check)

I booked FD at POFQ for 12/1 to 12/6/10 a week before AP rates came out. When I tried to get an AP with dining reservation at any MOD for 12/1 to 12/6, there wasn't any availability, so we are keeping the FD with the two 2 day tickets. DH's AP expires 12/9/10, so we will let his AP expire and when we go back in April 2011 we will use his 2 day ticket for our pre-cruise stay before we go on the Wonder. I really wanted POFQ so that is the trade off.

For 2 of us, Free DDP is better at the mod. but the 40% off and paying for dining is better at the deluxe then free dining.

We had for Jan free dining at POR, but when we switched to WL, the 40% off became the better promo and paying for dining.
