deciding what to do, i got a new car and have RAC membership for breakdown here in the UK, am going to renew my AAA membership to get hotel discounts, but am considering buying an AP , what do you think is best AP or AAA.
Does anyone know what rates come out first AP or AAA

AAA rates come out first, and then the AP rates come out closer to your date and (may) continue to drop...sometimes lower than AAA, sometimes not that much to make it worth while. You should still get at least 1 AP, that way you can get the bigger discounts (than using AAA) at restaurants and shopping....for that lovely DW of yours who seems to  shopping!!!

A lot depends on when you are going. This year I booked with a AAA discount for the end of June/early July. I would have bought an AP if AP rates came out, and the difference in price was worth it. The way I did it was to calculate how much my room and tickets would cost with AAA. Then, I calculated how much more it would cost to buy an AP. I was able to find out what the discounted rate would have to be to make an AP worth buying. I didn't take into account discounts at the World of Disney (I got a discount using my Disney Visa) or dining (we don't tend to do a lot of formal meals), just whether I would save money at the resort. Since they never offered an AP discount for my time frame, I didn't buy one. It would have been nice to have an excuse to go back this year though.

Sorry I'm going :offtopic: , but we have a Disney Visa (hey! no flames! :duck: )...do you get a discount at the Disney shops ( & DTD) and restaurants if you present/use your Disney Visa?? Thanks! :wave2:

disney doesn't give discounts on their shops if you have a disney visa cc.
i have already tried that. you get one point for every 100 you spend.

i also have the universal mc and you do get discounts when using that at the parks shop, etc in points.........double points when it is used at universal or buying tickets, etc.

Thanks mac! We've only had the DVisa since early last year, I didn't try using it for any discounts at WDW last year......we only got it cuz our last cc was a Visa w/ Toys R Us rewards. After realizing 2 Christmases ago, I didn't spend a whole lot in TRU (DS was 5 that year of "light" spending @ TRU), I decided we needed to change ccards. We want to take a Disney cruise in 2008 (for anniv.) w/ DS, so, we figured we'd get that card! So far, have about $400 in "Disney Dollars" on it and I'm keeping going! Nothing like buying UO AP's on it! :rotfl:

Now, you're saying the Universal MC gets you discounts at the Universal store? Is that it? I'm sure other stores and restaurants (in UO) would qualify for the discount too, right?? Altho, I'm guessing no discount on rooms.... AND, how much is the discount? More than AP or AAA?? (I know, just DOUBLE points for every dollar you spend at Universal.) We usually charge back to the room, so we'd have to put our room on the Universal MC....hhmmmm :scratchin Something I'll have to think about for the future!

for every dollar i spend and use the universal mc, i get one point.
when i use the uo cc for park tickets, hotel at universal, merch shops, etc. anything at universal i get 2 points for each one dollar i spend.

you also get 10% off the purchase in the resturants and shops inside the park. i have received the 10% off when i used it in city walk.
you do not get the discount off when you use it for the on site hotels.

at 60,000 points, maybe it has risen, don't know but it was last year, you can redeem those points for a 2 night stay at rph with tickets.
i have 50,000 points right now. the other redemption items are very good. you get a magazine that shows items you can redeem for about 2x's year.

right now i have my room booked with AAA
i will start checking the AP rates at the end of august.

if i get a better deal with AP, i will switch and use that for a deeper discount.

it is a hit and miss thing. only a percentage of rooms can be reserved with the AP.

i book early january for the oct trip so i am guarenteed the AAA discount.
they do disappear eventually but not as fast as the AP ones.
