AP Holder Dining Discount Question

I have an AP and I don't have one. When I first got an AP sometime last year, I did get a "discount card" which came with my AP magic band. But when they started issuing silver and gold passes, they stopped issuing cards. As far as I know, you no longer need to present a card to get the AP discount. I assume they just confirm the discount with your band.

Well that's odd then because I was an AP holder for about 10+ years - ending December 2014 - and never ever received a "discount card." They must have done that for part of the 2015 CY only. It looks like they may have been testing a system of no physical pass, but discount card for some period but now have gone back to the "regular" way.

1) How would anyone know that YOU are the person with the AP-DVC-TIW discount?
2) You could have given the band to another person for their use.
3) That is why the card and an ID are usually required.

Yes, I realize that.

Still would be nice not to have to carry them. With the magic band , the only thing I don't have to carry now is paper FP.

Hello All,

I am a first time Disney World Annual Passholder this year. I am looking at all the benefits and have a question about the dinning discount. How will restaurants know if I am using a magic band that I am an AP holder. Is there a separate card they give you for being an AP that you can hang onto to show with your ID? Also do you have to pay with your magic band or can you use a credit card? One last question: It says that the discount can apply to the AP holder and three guests, so the guests all have to be on the same bill?
P.S. - I have not gone to the World yet to have my voucher turned into actual admission

Very good question. We just renewed our annual passes and I was wondering the same thing as when we renewed, they sent us new magic bands, but no cards. We are heading to the parks this weekend, so your post prompted me to call and ask.

The woman I spoke to said they do not mail out the cards any more for annual passes, just the magic bands. She did confirm you need the cards and ID to get the discount. Unfortunately I had thrown away our old cards, so they told me to go to Guest Services at any of the parks and get new ones.

Agree with the other folks on this thread that it is a pain to carry all the cards around as we too travel "light" when at the parks.

I was just in Disney the end of February and activated a newly purchased AP. I was given a card to use for discounts at the time I activated it. And every time I used a discount they took both the card and my ID, never my Magicband.

I was there week before last and without fail, every time I asked to use my AP discount, whether for food or merchandise, they asked to see my card and my ID.

I was there in early March and at every store purchase was asked to show my AP card and ID. Sigh. I don't even know where my AP card is any more, but was able to show on MDE that I have an AP.

I bought them at the Disney Store so I didn't have to pay the fee I'd read about if you buy them online. Also I wanted them linked up right away.
