AP Holder Dining Discount Question

Hello All,

I am a first time Disney World Annual Passholder this year. I am looking at all the benefits and have a question about the dinning discount. How will restaurants know if I am using a magic band that I am an AP holder. Is there a separate card they give you for being an AP that you can hang onto to show with your ID? Also do you have to pay with your magic band or can you use a credit card? One last question: It says that the discount can apply to the AP holder and three guests, so the guests all have to be on the same bill?
P.S. - I have not gone to the World yet to have my voucher turned into actual admission

Thanks,

-Patrice

Yes you will get an AP card that you have to show in order to get the discount. You do not have to charge it to your magic band, you can use cash, credit card, etc. And yes, I believe you all have to be on the same bill.

Not disputing any answers here, but with the magic band it sure would be nice not to carry all the cards. I would need AP. DVC, Visa, and ID. If I purchased TIW, that would be another card. I like to carry as little as possible into the parks , so I have the band but also use a lanyard for the cards and a little bit of cash.

I completely agree- I love that with a magic band I should need to carry anything, but instead I have to carry my ap card and license. I also used to carry my disney visa for that discount, but the ap discount is better anyway.

You are going to have to carry the AP and and ID if you intend to use it for discounts, if you have TIW you also have to carry it and an ID. I have one of those little wallets that are no bigger than a card, it has an ID slot on one side and two slide pockets on the other. It's one of those when you put the money on the inside and flip it the money is strapped down. Fits in just about any size of pocket and I just put my TIW in the same slot as my AP. I can carry my ID, AP, TIW and CC and cash that way.

They don't issue AP discount cards anymore. The band should be sufficient.

As stated, you still need to carry the physical annual pass plus your ID. People should always carry their IDs anyway. The annual pass is a tyvek card so it shouldn't be a burden to carry these things.

As stated, they aren't issuing tyvek discount cards anymore. I have no "physical annual pass."

I was there week before last and without fail, every time I asked to use my AP discount, whether for food or merchandise, they asked to see my card and my ID.

Yeah, I don't think just showing the AP is universal. From last week:

Merchandise - One time they scanned my band, another I had to dig out the card (and that was at the World of Disney at DS)
Dining - The only time I used it they just scanned the band
Parking - This one surprised me...one band scan and every other time (at least 6 or 7) I just showed the band and they waved me on

I was staying offsite, so the band for credit card wasn't an issue, but you can certainly use it for that if you wish, or use a different payment method (I was using Disney GC's), or cash.

I have had to show my AP and ID for every discount. My brother has the newer pass and he got a card and has to show it for discounts ( we don't usually ever use his for discounts because he would have to use his Passport as an ID as he is a minor and has no drivers license and we don't want to carry it around.

All your posts refer to an "AP Discount Card" which as far as I'm aware wasn't ever a thing.
If you mean the actual pass they certainly do still exist.

I have an AP and I don't have one. When I first got an AP sometime last year, I did get a "discount card" which came with my AP magic band. You can see a picture of what they look like at http://behindthemouse.com/wp-conten...y-Annual-Passholder-Discount-Card-236x300.jpg. But when they started issuing silver and gold passes, they stopped issuing cards. As far as I know, you no longer need to present a card to get the AP discount. I assume they just confirm the discount with your band.

We got our AP's under the new pass system, and we got the AP card not a discount card. It never fails that I am asked to present the card and ID for the discount. Even though it's linked to my band and I've asked if I can just show the band I have been turned down every time. Here's to hoping they will do away with showing the card!

I got annual pass over thanksgiving and had to show my pass card and if every purchase - the band counted for nothing except room charge. My daughter (minor age) didn't have to show ID - just the pass card.
