AP expiration date question

We just purchased annual passes online through Disney. When looking on MDE the tickets were listed with an expiration date of: Tuesday 12/31/30. My question is has there always been a date in which you needed to activate them by? I thought they were good forever (until you activated them). It really doesn't matter since we are going to use them this year. I was just curious.

How interesting. You bought them today? Then yes, that is a change, along with the other ticket changes that took effect today--price increases, and no more non-expiring. You bought them yesterday or before? Then it could be a new way they are tracking them?
It will be interesting to find out.
Are you going to call Disney ticket services? You know you are as likely to get a wrong answer there as here.

I bought mine in December and it has the same date - 12/31/2030, it was there when I bought it. They probably have to code a date into their computer system. Unless you are planning on holding it past then, I would not worry about it.

I bought them last night right before the ticket price increase. I just happened to look at the MDE today to see if they were on there and noticed the expiration date and thought that was strange. Like I said, it won't matter to us since we plan on activating them in August. I just was under the impression they were good forever until you activated them. Maybe it is just a coding thing like DebbieB said. Unfortunately we can't afford to purchase extra years of annual passes right now so 2030 is plenty safe. I'm sure come 2030 the $529 price tag will look great for an AP. For what its worth here is what it says on MDE:

Disney Annual Pass - DVC
Assigned to:

Age: 10 and older
Expires: Tuesday, December 31, 2030

Maybe that's the date they will close WDW :rolleyes1

LOL. Let's hope not being DVC members. That would put a damper on things! We own at SSR so they have to stick it out till at least 2054!

I recently was going through some old stuff I had stashed away in the spare bedroom and there was a bag of receipts from a trip in 1998 or 1999. AP's were $257! Dinner for two at LeCellier was $36!

HA! $36 wont even necessarily get you 1 entrée at Le Cellier now let alone dinner for 2! Although $257 for an AP sounds great now, I'm sure many were complaining about that at the time too. It would be nice to get those prices back now though! Oh well.

It's typical to use 12/31/2030 for dates when there is no expiration. In most databases, date fields require a non-zero value.

That is my understanding also. You can activate any time in the future but you are looking at the last date that the particular computer program could show. Also, consider the logic of it. If Disney were actually going to do away with the no expiration for the AP, it certainly would not set a date that 15 years away.
