We bought AP's for the first time this year and are very excited to have three trips planned in the next 12 months. My youngest daughter will be two when we take our first two trips but 3 for our last one. We are taking my niece on the first trip. Is it possible to buy an AP for my two year old and use it for my niece on our summer trip while the baby won't need it and then use it for her on subsequent trips? I don't want to do anything wrong but this seems like a gray area. Please do not flame me...I really am just looking for answers from people in the know!

Probably not for two reasons (a) they do not sell tickets for two year olds and do ask age when you go to purchase, and (b) only person who is permitted to use an AP is the person whose name appears on it. With adults you have a finger scan that verifies. Kids not required to do a scan and thus they rely on adults to assure child using pass is the person intended.

Annual Passes are not transferrable and therefore if your name is not on the AP then you cannot use it. How many days do you plan on being in the parks for your second and third trips? Also, are you planning on renewing your passes at the end of the year, or just let them expire?

I'm confused. Why would you buy an AP for a 2 year old? I personally would not let someone else use an AP that was assigned to another person. Good luck and have fun with all the trip planning! :D

Sorry if I was not making myself clear. It is a bit complicated. Here is the scenario:

DH, DD(7), DD(2), niece(8), and I will be going to Disney in August. I have AP's for DH, DD(7), and myself. DD(2) will turn 3 in January so she will require tickets during at least one of our future trips. Consequently, it makes sense to buy her a AP for use during the latter part of this year. We will not be renewing our AP's.

Is it permissible to buy an AP for our two year old who will not need a ticket for our August trip (but will need it for future trips) and use it for our niece rather than buy a length of stay pass for the niece while we have one very expensive AP that will otherwise go unused for that particular trip since our daughter will only be 2 in August?

I am sorry this is so confusing. I really am at a loss for a more concise explanation.

Disney will not sell you an AP for a two year old. While you can actually purcahse an AP voucher ahead of time intending to use it for DD(2) (no names or ages are required for purchasing the vouchers), you will have to give the name and date of birth when activating them. That is when they will tell you that you can't purchase the AP for a two year old.

Get a PHP of the appropriate length for the niece's trip, then get another one for the January trip for DD(now 3). Then should you all decide to renew your AP's for 2004, you can get DD(3) her own pass then.

AP are only for the person on the card to use can't be used by anyone else.

No - I don't think you can really do that and the AP does have the childs name although they don't need to do the finger scan.

Once I mixed up my girls a/p's and the cm noticed a name on my older dd's pin and double checked the AP - so they are aware. When she asked my oldest dd was her name ____ she just laughed and said "silly that's my sister, I am _____" . At this point the CM totally got it that the passes were switched. This could be embarassing to say the least if you were using your neice's pass and dd said as much.

It may even be cheaper to buy your neice (or have her parents buy) a pass for the longest number of days. In fact since the PH passes don't expire you could buy the max number of days, say a 7 day and let your neice use some and then have your dd use the remaining.

WDWIG.com has a price comparison chart that could help you decide the most cost effective way to do this.

I must commend you for planning to purchase your dd a pass when she turns 3. I have read so many threads about "sneaking" in a 3yo and must admit that does bother me.

Kudos and have a great trip!

No. And you were very clear with what you are trying to do.

Thanks for the replies. It seemed obvious that you would not be able to do this in most cases but I was hoping that the timing of my daughter's age would make it permissible. Great advice. I will just buy park hoppers for my niece and then get an AP for my youngest in January.

Gepetto: Glad I was clear in my description of what I wanted to do...I am an English teacher so it would have been embarrassing if I could not effectively communicate my ideas.

tjmw2727: I agree about people sneaking their children in to save money by having them lie about their ages . It is a disgusting practice. It really gives your children a terrible message about honesty and ethics. That is why I wanted to be sure about using someone else's AP...also I would hate to embarrass my niece.

Thanks again. I knew I would get a quick answer here!

Just one other quick note. You had said that you were not going to renew the APs at the end of the year. If that is the case then it may not be cost effective to purchase an AP in January for your dd for just one trip. Unless your trip will be for more than 7 days.
