AP discount vs. DVC discount for rooms?

We have run out of points but are planning a short trip in July. I'm turning 40 and want to wake up at WDW for my birthday! Is the 25% DVC discount on rooms better than an AP rate? And, when the AP rates do come out for July, can I change my reservation if I have booked under the DVC disount rate?

Thanks!

DVC Discount reservations book through Member Services, AP discounted rooms book through CRO. As to which discount is best...it will vary depending upon season and promos being offered to APs.

If AP rates come out for July, and they are less expensive than the DVC discount you will need to book it through CRO and cancel your DVC discount reservation with MS. However, CRO reservations can not be "linked" to DVC MS reservations, so unless the AP discount is a substantial savings, I doubt I would rebook...especially if you want the Dining Plan...it can not be added to AP reservations, and since the reservations can't be linked, there is the possibility you will need to change rooms.

If I'm not mistaken, the DVC discounted rooms are through MS and the AP rate rooms are through CRO, so it would probably require you canceling the MS room after you obtain your AP rate room from CRO. The good thing is that MS does not process your credit card until you check in...you would just have to cancel 5 days before to not be charged.

Hope you have a great 40th birthday and WDW!:)

In conjunction with this question: iIf you are staying a week or two is it sane :crazy2: and or cost effective to not use points on fri & sat. instead pay cash with AP rate. Since the rate is sooooo  high? Does anybody do this?
Thanks

A lot of people do just that, or move to a different less expensive resort on cash for the weekends.

Can someone give me an example or two of the savings for paying cash for fri. = sat. and how it would have to be done?
I wouldn't think of moving (too big a hassel):upsidedow
Thanks, I know a lot of dopey questions.

Look here and find your room size and season for the cash price of your room. If available, the DVC discount will be 25% off...then call MS & book the cash nights and ask that they be linked to your existing points reservation so you don't have to move.
