AP discount limitation for rooms?

I am thinking of buying an AP. If there's room only codes, is it only for moderates? Can you use it at the deluxes? If so, can you also use it for concierge? I thought I read somewhere that the codes were only for moderates. Does anyone have any experience with that?
Thank you! :)

I would never recommend buying a pass to get a discount. Buy the pass for park admission and if anything is available when you go, then that is great.

Discounts are random and subject to availability at each resort. They have been offered at all resorts before, but also at times only certain resorts are offered.

So truly there is no way to know until you try to book. You can book and if you get the discount, then you can buy it when you arrive or before you arrive.

We used an AP discount on our trip last year. AP discounts have been getting less and less but, hey, it's still a discount if you get it! We saved about $25 a night at the Poly on a Standard room. I don't know as far as getting different room categories (such as concierge, etc.). But I do know they only offer so many AP discounted rooms and they book up pretty fast! (We missed out on one at WL on our 2005 second week of December trip).

Right now, for my August trip, I am saving about 18 a night. ON a value resort.
So I am paying about 64 a night. Great savings if you ask me.
I am using it for two rooms, for my BIL so it is REALLY saving money.

For my other trip, later in the year I am saving 51 a night on a monderate.

I forgot what my savings was for March.

BUT, so far it has worked for me.

But then again I didn't get it for the discount alone, this will be my 4th trip on the pass with one more before it expires.

There are a limited number of rooms at the resorts (values thru the deluxes) for AP rates and even then not all of the resorts will offer AP discounts for any given month. We have always gotten FL resident or PH rates but there have been times when our first choice didn't have any PH rooms available.

I've had an AP for I think 4 years. I have always been able to get an AP discount at a value or moderate (deluxes are out of my budget). I travel in late April, early August and early to mid December. You should have a choice in each category IF you call right when the discounts are announced, but you may not be able to get the specific resort you wanted. AS Movies seems to be the hardest along with POFQ. Don't forget that you can keep calling back. What I do now--after almost getting burned in April--is I book a room, then call the day the discounts are announced and see if that room is available at the discount, if not, I see what other options are open--but at least I know I have a room.
I am going in 2 weeks and have a water view at a moderate for $109/night.

We bought an AP to get a discount on our resort, as well as to be able to purchase the DDE card.
We paid $218 a night (with tax) for the Boardwalk instead of about $370. The cost to upgrade my 7-day Hoppers to an AP was $188 so we still saved over $250 in 3 nights.
This was not our first resort choice, so you do have to be flexible. Don't buy it ahead of time just because you MIGHT get an AP discount for the resort you want to stay at. You don't need an AP to book the room, so you can wait until you know for sure that a discount will be available.

In our case it was a great deal, plus we'll come back probably 2-3 times witin the year and it'll definitely save $$ on park tickets.
