AP buying strategy for best first use date & FP+

This is a toss up as to whether you'd call this an FP+ question or an AP question so mods, feel free to move it if you feel it should be somewhere else. Also, this may be answered already but my search-foo is failing me (it's been a long day), so feel free to just post a link to another thread. :)

I'm off to WDW in Jan next year and it's been over 2 years so we let our APs lapse and this will be the first time we're buying new tickets (rather than just renewing them) since FP+ & all the ticket changes.

What I want is for the AP to activate on the first day we enter a park to get the maximum use out of it but if I understand it correctly we need to have activated media on our MDE accounts to book FP+ 60 days out and that will be 60 days of wasted use on the AP.

What I'd like is to know the best way to have my cake and eat it. I want the AP to start on Jan 28th 2017 but I want to be booking FP+ 60 days before that. My first thought is to just get a one day park ticket so I can book the FPs but I'm not sure that loophole (as in the loophole of having a 1 day ticket but still being able to book multile days worth of FP+) still works. Also, I'm not sure if the tickets have an expiry on them nowadays (as I don't usually buy normal tickets) and I don't want to buy a 1 day ticket for it to expire on Dec 31st.

So, can someone point me at the best way to do this?

No, all you need to do is link your AP voucher to MDE to book your FPs.

Your AP won't become active until you activate it at the park on your first park day.

When I got my AP I bought over the phone and was given a code to link it to MDE. I now have access to pass holder pricing and FP+ but I have to take the certificates they sent me and exchange them for the actual AP. They said the first day would be the first park day.

We have had AP's for years. Your AP will start the first day you use it in the park. It has to be activated at guest services before you enter the park.

Buy your AP before the 60 day mark and link the will call number to your MDE account, then make your FP+ reservations.

A one day ticket will only get you 1 day of FP+ advance reservations.

Hmm, I always thought that it activated as soon as it was put onto MDE.

I'll give DVC member services a ring and see if I can get a voucher.
