Finally getting back to WDW in mid-late August! My Disney "home" is CBR, but I've learned that they are starting construction and demolition for what is presumed to be a DVC tower there. Ugh! Don't want to deal with mess like that on my vacation!!

So... New place to stay.

It's a solo adult trip, so "space" in the room is not really an issue.

I've narrowed it down to these two options - either a Garden View at POFQ or a Little Mermaid room at AoA.

I'm kind of leaning towards AoA, but reading about the a/c sensors not kicking on when people are sleeping makes me nervous - especially since values don't have ceiling fans.

Thoughts? WWYD?

This is an easy question. Do you like compact or spread out? LM rooms are a hike to the main building/buses.

As for the sensors, we stay at values often and have never had an issue maintaining an ice cold room. I actually hate ceiling fans blowing on me at night.

I've stayed at both and prefer POFQ because of the amenities of the pool slide and beignets and the NOLA theming. That said, AoA little mermaid is very well themed and often hard to get. The entire AoA resort is fun to walk around. POFQ is small and quick to get to transportation and food, however the little mermaid rooms are furthest from the lobby and transportation. If I had a choice and money was not a consideration, I'd stay POFQ.

I was just about to edit to add that I live in NYC and have no car, so walking is kind of my way of life.

I just noticed your stay is in August. I would not want to be in a LM room during the August heat if you plan a little bit of back and forth between your room and the main building. The walk will get to you because of the heat and the non-shaded pathways. :crazy2:

That's good because you'll be doing a lot of it if you choose a mermaid room, lol.

All joking aside, it's a long haul. Especially aggravating after a long day in the parks, or when you want to grab a bite to eat...or just a drink.

We've never really stayed anywhere that took away from our trip...except there. We would debate whether or not to go back to room for any sort of break because of how much time (and energy) it would take to get all the way back and then back out for dinner, or whatever. So we mainly stayed in the parks all day (with 4 combined children). We barely used our refillable mugs that trip bc it was too much of a hassle to go back and forth.

If you're just using the room to sleep that's one thing, but if you'd like to use it all I'd go for the FQ in a heartbeat. Also, as an adult I would think the theming and ambiance of FQ would be more attractive as well.

I'm not that worried about the heat. No a/c in my apartment (fans only), subway platforms which get ridiculously hot, and the heat radiating from the buildings in Manhattan makes it really warm too. As long as you hydrate properly it's not that big of a deal.

See...if I was dragging kids around that would be another thing. But I'm a solo adult who doesn't mind walking. I don't think people who don't live in NYC really get it. Walking multiple blocks - often easily over a half mile - to get somewhere is not all that uncommon. I mean, sure, you could use a subway to go a few blocks, but why? I reserve that for say 59th St to 115th. THAT is long. 10-20 blocks? Easy peasy.

Resort theme overall, perhaps. But that slide is hideous IMHO. At least I could not pack a bathing suit as I can guarantee I won't be using the POFQ pool. Ick.

AoA on the other hand, I could definitely see pool time there.

But to me, a vacation should be a bit of an escape from your everyday life, not an extension of it.

Are they the same price? I prefer POFQ as we love the boat from Riverside to Disney Springs. Plus I didn't care for the food court at AoA rooms nice though. But I prefer the moderate if price was the similar.

Pretty close in price.

I'm just iffy on the New Orleans stuff. I'm a weird one in that it is NOT my idea of a fun place to visit. (Not interested in Veags either...but that is a moot point here).

So why did you ask the question and then insult people who don't live in NYC as "not getting it"? You asked and everyone who responded voted for POFQ and you are arguing with them. If you like really small, loud, uncomfortable value rooms with air conditioning issues, long walks, crowded buses and chaotic food courts, yes, by all means stay at AoA. You answered your question before you even posted.

You're a solo traveller who likes to walk. You don't need to consider any one's needs but your own. Don't overthink this. Pick a theme you love and stay there. Why would you consider POFQ if you're not into the theming?

If you've already made up your mind, why ask for opinions and then shoot down every opinion offered? People are pointing out the differences in the two and why they prefer one to the other. You asked "WWYD" and then disagree with everyone who tells you what they'd do. For me, there'd be no question about it--POFQ in a heartbeat! And that seems to be the general consensus. But you don't seem to like anything about it.

Just book AoA already and be done with it.

I agree,
You have made up your mind and are simply arguing with those trying to help you.

Im with you. Im not fond of POFQ theme either. Not my first choice. And i agree with you about Vegas, been there, nothing special. But anyway, thats another story.

Sounds like you're leaning towards AoA. If youre not fond of the theme at POFQ or the pool slide/pool there...this is a no brainer. I'd go for AoA. Its great for a solo traveller. Very bright and cheery. That resort has such a fun theme, you'll love it. The walk to LM is long BUT it sounds like that'll be a breeze for you since your use to lots of walking. Plus the theme is so nice and quite unique, maybe you'll be too busy looking around to notice the long walk. :teeth: Plus if your feeling adventurous, you can cross the bridge over to Pop and look around there and maybe even try out their food court. Something different. Although i really do like the food court at AoA. The offerings are quite unique. The bonus is that you do save a bit of money by staying here.

I've never stayed at POFQ, but I will say that if you do go for AOA, you should be up for staying in any of the different themed suites. I went once for the Little Mermaid rooms, but because they were so popular and technically overbooked, the hotel bumped us into a nicer room. That would have been great if the room wasn't a Cars room, but the Cars section was almost entirely empty and it's what they had available. My friend and I don't care for Cars at all, so the theming was a disappointment, though we recognize Disney was offering us a nice gesture to cover for their mistake (or more likely, very deliberate choice) of overbooking Little Mermaid. While I realize this is a rare circumstance (though not the week we went) and hopefully not a practice of theirs any longer, I feel like since you seem interested in AOA for The Little Mermaid theming I just had to say you should also be prepared for any of the sections. If anything at AOA but Little Mermaid sounds miserable, I do suggest going for POFQ - maybe one of the Disney Princess rooms to get a similar feel?

There are no princess rooms at POFQ. That's only POR.
