AoA - Anyone else not impressed??

I think the outside of the resort looks fun, and I like the look of the food court menu. What I don't care for is the inside of the rooms. I know they are heavily themed on purpose, but when I go back to our room I like a relaxing atmosphere and those rooms are way more stimulating than relaxing.

I also question the choice of The Little Mermaid as the only single room section. It seems that if they had picked a more gender neutral movie that it would appeal to more families.

I'm looking forward to stopping at AoA in Sept. for. Meal and a stroll with my camera.

From the pictures, I like the " in your face" Disney aspect. If it was just me and my husband then I would probably pick another resort. But with our son, I could definately see us booking this resort. It is after all my sons vacation too. Everyone has their own idea and comfort level while on vacation. Not everyone can afford the higher suites / rooms in the next two tiers and are just looking for some relaxation and family time while still being able to experience onsite Disney.

OP, you may have more extensive prison experience than I. I've been to precisely one prison in my entire life and drove past two others. It doesn't look like those.

I think it looks adorable. The outside is much cuter than other Values at WDW.

Agree with OP. Far too much hard geometry, they seem cold and abrupt from the photos.

I might have to stop in during my 'alone days' during my October trip. The food court, with the mickey tarts sounds right up my alley.

Will the resort be fully completed by the last week in October?

Yes. The last section to open, Little Mermaid, will open in mid-September.

Interesting how many families with boys think the LM section is terrible. When we were kids, we would have been happy to have a pool to play in, a place to sleep and be on site. Neither me or my brother cared much what our rooms looked like. I was a huge tomboy as a kid and not a fan of LM.

Maybe it is just me but if I couldn't afford a suite and was dead set on not going somewhere else like the other values, I'd be happy to stay there. After all, it is only a place to sleep.

We are staying at AoA because we are bringing my Mom so we want the suite and my kids are huge Cars fans. When we get there and see my kids reaction, nothing else will matter. I have an opinion about the Deluxe resorts that is not popular so I keep it to myself and I certainly don't act like I don't understand why people would stay there.

Whats wonderful about Disney is that there are so many options and price points.
Clearly what makes one family happy does not always make anothers' vacation the same way. To each his/her own.
I happen to love NEMO, my all time favorite but I/we would not stay there/value, just our choice.

I am more than not impressed, I think it's tasteless and tacky. Vivid colours are fine if they're matched really well and fit into the structure. This hotel is designed to smack you over the head with primary colours repeatedly whilst, at the same time, reminding you of a jail block.

If this hotel was a kid, it would have just finished two bags of candy, 3 Red Bull cans and is now jumping over the furniture and whacking into walls uncontrollably.

Sums it up pretty well. I too am not a fan. Can't see me staying there (unless it was a free trip maybe).

I did the same when my son was born. Red, Blue, Yellow and Green.... His favorite color is red, my husbands is blue and mine is green...so this resort works for us!

When I first saw the rooms I thought so, too... and I still may in person but now after seeing more and more pics, I really want to stay there because my almost-three-year-old will love it! If I could stay anywhere and it was just DH and I, it wouldn't be AOA (probably would choose a monorail resort if I could afford it) but my whole house is decorated in bright, vivid colors and I find AOA very cheery. I am glad that with WDW being such an in-demand vacation spot, that they have so many options for people to stay at!

If you're talking about the single-character murals on each building, they're meant to look like sketches. I don't think they're ever going to be colored in.

This doesn't do much for me either. But everything else more than makes up for it!

exactly. As long as my kids are young I will most often stay at the Values b/c they are more fun for the kids. When DH and I are retired in our 70s, we can go stay at the GF or YC. But my kids would NOT be very excited to stay at any of those places. The only deluxe they might enjoy would be AKL. AoA would be like a dream come true for them.

I love the look of AoA and I'm a adult! The Little Mermaid rooms look great..I just wish I could afford to stay there! Maybe if I go on a solo trip in the future..

I'm not a fan or the way it looks either, but that's ok, there are other places to stay that we like the looks of. This is what's great, no one who thinks it's ugly has to stay there.
