I read all about these great airfares people are getting (96.00 rt, 49.00 one-way) and I am getting really upset. I am paying 550.00 for 2 round trip tickets in December from NH. Anyone else paying this much or am I a tool being taken by the airlines?

who are you flying and when ??
thats crazy last dec 4 of us flew jetblue roundtrip for less than that

I don't think that's too bad at all. I fly from Boston to Atlanta/FL quite often. I consider anything less than $200 pp RT a good deal. People post about the really, really good deals, but prices like yours are a lot more normal.

(Just for giggles I did a flexible date search for Boston to Orlando in all of December. You can't use Manchester for flexible dates. The lowest fair I could find the whole month was $192 round trip. And that didn't even include taxes and fees.)

What airline and which airport?

We almost always fly SW out of MHT in the $100-$150 r/t range. We're flying SW late next month for $135 r/t pp (actually less because I had a credit but that doesn't really count). I bought these in early August although the fares have since increased (which would explain your fares if you booked SW). I'm hoping for a DING fare soon because I want to change our dates by a day or two and right now it would cost me $100 a ticket to do that based on current fares. The fares I'm seeing for MHT-MCO right now are the highest I've ever seen them.

I bought my tickets from SW for Dec 8th as soon as they were scheduling those flights ... I don't remember exactly when, but it was months ago. The fares actually decreased since then and I changed them. I looked at other airlines at other airports ... including Boston .... and SW out of Manchester is still cheaper. I have Ding installed, yet nothing. Of course, I should mention that even if a Ding fare becomes available, I will not take it if it is a lousy flight (midnight, etc.) so maybe that's it ... I am too picky. But, I still see that lousy flights are the same price as what I paid. :confused3

We (4 of us) are flying from Maryland for $776. I thought that was pretty good but I also see people flying for alot less.

I'm new to the transportation board and I couldn't believe all the deals people we're getting. My family has been very lucky the last few years flying with sw with rates of 59 to 79, but we are leaving for wdw Dec 1-8 and unless the flights go down my husband says we have to drive.YUCK!!!!!!!!!! : : :sad2: :sad2: :sad2: :sad2: Sorry so long Amy

I don't think the sales have been out as frequently as prior years. I'm waiting to book 2 tickets BDL-MCO (which frequently mirror MHT-MCO price wise) for 11/7 and still haven't done it. Since I would accept any of the non-stops on 11/7, until they start becoming unavailable, I"m holding off on booking, but its nervewracking! I've heard that some people have fares for early dec at the $54, or $59, but I must have missed that - if it included November. I know that for OCtober, it was 9/27 before they offered the $59 for the month of October; so I'm hoping something silimiar will happen and there will be a sale on November fares. There have been some DINGS, but they've been for $94, OR $99, so I decided to wait it out. I do know that if we have to start paying $250+ for tickets instead of $150, there will be fewer trips.
BTW, We're currently flying home from TPA because I was able to grab a $39 DING. If I can get MCO for $59 or less, I'll switch it out, but if not, we're drive the 1.5 hours to TPA to save $200+

Good luck to everyone!

I just checked, using kayak.com (travel search engine, not travel company; you click through to the travel provider) and found
$176 each, round trip, Continental, one stop each way, purchase directly from Continental, MHT-MCO, 12/8 to 12/16 (didn't know your return date) total $358,
and
$228 each, round trip, American down Delta back, non-stop, purchase from I forget, BOS-MCO, 12/8 to 12/16, total $456.

I bought a ticket for my daughter to join me in Orlando at Thanksgiving. Non-stop Dallas to MCO on Thanksgiving morning and returning on Nov. 27 was $301 on American. The ticket was purchased in early August. That isn't what I'd call inexpensive, but her flights are even more expensive now. Unfortunately, Southwest wasn't an option out of Dallas.

We try to fly SW out of Raleigh-Durham when we go which means we have to drive 3 hrs and 15 mins to get to the airport. Not too bad seeing as we usually get great deals on tickets. Last year we flew for $28 each way!!! :cool1: I have been watching like crazy and they are so slow with their ding flights that I finally booked Allegiant out of our home airport for $69 each way. This way we wont have to drive 3 hrs and 15 mins, but the down side is we have to fly into Sanford and then we have an hour drive. We also lose ME and have to pay for a car service- another $200 for a round trip. I get such a headache worring about airfare and prices and trying to save money. I just have to put it behind me now that we have made our decision and try not to think about it.

I am feeling like a fool. I could have gotten $149 RT on NWA, plus DH has miles for a free ticket(we need 5). I waited too long and now it is $215.

I finally booked for $148 on Allegiant Air. We will have to pay for the extra ticket and rent a car, because the flight comes into Sanford Airport but I am looking forward to it...it is so worth it not to hassle with the giant airports and wait for ME.

I have never flown out of the smaller airports, but have dropped people off and they are really tiny- I thought is this all there is? :confused3 A great way to start off a stress free vacation and well worth it IMO.

fakeredhead - we flew into Sanford a few years ago and would do it again in a heartbeat. It is very nice using the smaller airports. The drive to Disney is only about 45 minutes (at off peak times), and it was definitely worth it.

Corwin - Don't beat yourself up over those fares. We flew from Philadelphia to Orlando the week before Thanksgiving last year, and paid $275/pp round trip. I watched those fares right up until we went, and they never came down. We are going the same week this year, and somehow I got flights for $137/pp round trip. They are the exact times I wanted, and non-stop. I'm not sure why I was so lucky this year.

I consider anything around $250/pp round trip a fair deal. I have had varying degrees of success when buying airfare. I had a very hard time finding decent fares for Presidents Week of 2004, and was thrilled to finally book at $275/pp rt. So I would be happy to have a respectable fare for the flights you wanted and let it go at that. I think when you spend a lot of times on these boards, it is easy to make yourself crazy about every little detail. Don't let it get to you! :)

We paid gross $2200 for 4 to fly from CA. We had $600 in vouchers (paid for by us previously for fare reductions) and $300 in Entertainment coupons, so the net cost was $1900 ($1300 + the $600 that was our money to begin with), but STILL! Lots of money! Your fare sounds like a steal!

This sounds like flying from the east coast of Canada. With the exception of charters, there are no direct flights out of Halifax anymore and no discount carriers in the market. We flew direct the last 2 years (4 hours) and the cost was around $450/pp (CDN$ or about $360 US taxes and fees in) each time. The best I am seeing now is $660pp ($575 US), with a layover.

You folks have no idea how fortunate you are to get the rates that you consider high. It is very easy for 50% of our trip budget to be consumed just on flights.

Consider yourselves lucky to have options at the prices you are seeing!

I paid $234 pp R/T from MHT to MCO 2/24 to 3/4 (the week after President's week). Prices had been really high and I was trying to hold out for SWA but I snagged these tix on US Air. Glad I didn't wait for SWA because the cheapest for my dates was $278 but those were unavailable. I feel like $234 is reasonable. It's not the great deal I got last year at $128 pp R/T but I think it's still OK. Prices from MHT to MCO for that same week now are the highest I have ever seen. My tix are going for $600+ pp now. I am trying to find three more tickets for my dates for a friend and her 2 DDs for a decent price and I haven't seen anything since I got mine.

My friend would be happy with your $275. We can't find anything for under $400. I am hoping that in another month when we are three months out maybe we can snag her a deal. The planes are still half empty according to the seating charts for my flights. Good luck everyone finding a price you can live with. It can be so stressful. If anyone finds anything for MHT to MCO 2/24 to 3/4 let me know!

I'm waiting for the fares from Boston to MCO to come down to around $500 r/t total for the 3 of us for our April trip to Disney. That's what we paid the past couple of years. I've never seen it less than $500 r/t total for the 3 of us during that time period. Otherwise, we're driving to Disney in April. We drove down the 1st year, March '04 and it wasn't that bad a ride.
Good Luck All,
Joe

Don't feel too bad. We are flying in January from our "local" airport (still an hour away) and are paying ~$250 per person for a non-stop service to Orlando that is offered once a week. The flights are cheaper from Major Metro airports, but the closest one is 4 hours from our house - not worth the drive to me - although I know a lot of people around here who drive down the night before and spend the night at a hotel where they can park for "free" and take a hotel shuttle to the airport.

Your date of 12/8 is a Friday and SW is never cheap for flights on Thursday/Friday/Saturday from my experience. I've been following the Dings since August for MHT, PVD, and BDL and they are few and far between and when they do come they are for Tuesday/Wednesday or for one specific flight in the middle of the day. The average "good" price these days is about $225 all in (fare plus taxes) roundtrip from the JB, SW, AirTran pool. Delta is always a few bucks more. The best I've gotten is JB from BOS to MCO last month for $166 all in, but think about it - who flies to MCO in September, of course it wil lbe cheaper. The Thanksgiving blackout period flights are all $400 and up at this point and the Xmas blackout flights are heading to that range. I think $550 for 2 or $275 each all in is about average in today's new reality. Don't beat yourself up over it - you're wel lwithin the range - enjoy your trip!!!

We travel to florida for every winter break (president's week) and the only way we can do that is if I can find reasonable flights. This year we are paying $220 each (x5) which isn't bad (non-stops into Tampa). I shop very early to get a good deal as that is a terrible week to fly as everyone has it off. That said, my son is in the marching band this year and they are traveling to florida in December (xmas break) for a trip. The trip commity reviewed the expenses with us last week and they are paying $475 each for a flight!!! (southwest) I would have thought a group would get a good deal. I guess not. If I had to pay $475 a ticket we would not go or consider driving.
