I eat very small meals now, about half a regular meal, about the size of a child's meal. High protein, high fat, and low carb. No potatoes, rice, pasta, or sugar. Small amounts of fruit and bread is ok.

I plan on sharing larger meals with dd10. But I want a character meal and buffets a couple of times. It just won't be worth it at an adult cost. :( buffets make it easy to choose what I can and can't eat plus there is no food waste.

I have a note from my surgeon explaining how I have a small stomach and requesting that I can order off a child's menu. Will this work for WDW?

Any recommendations for larger meals with high protein and low carb? Cheaper buffets? Thank you!

Historically this won't work at Disney. You may be able to get a child's meal at QS places but at TS it would be up to the server and the Children's menus aren't all that great. You will have to pay full price at buffets and all-you-care-to-eat family style places.

My weight loss surgery was over 2 years ago. Disney is the worst place to be accomadated as far as accepting the card that requests adjusting the price to childs price. I have stopped doing character meals altogether becaaue they are so unyielding...sorry not paying $55 for 4 or so tablespooons of food and to see characters I can see in the parks.

What works, I usually go anywhere the rest of the family wants to go and I get soup and salad as my entree. Occasionally I will order an entree knowing that I will need to take the majority of it back to the resort with me. I still do not eat and drink at the same meal so I am certian to only order water so I don't look odd.
Places that work the best for me:
Chefs de France onion soup and the small dinner salad or share the alsacienne tart with DD

Plaza, cup of soup and share the chicken salad with DD or DH

Signature dining as portions are much smaller and courses are well spaced.

CS salads are pretty good for the most part. At CS I occasionally get children's meals and have no issues, but not all are band or WLS friendly so you have to be careful.

During the entire trip I supplement with protein shakes...one for breakfast, one before bed and if I feel I need some more protein I will grab a shake when we return to the room at some point during the day.

The Disney Dining experience changes very drastically after WLS!

Disney Dining Plan is definitely NOT for you. Without it you can order from the childs menu at any a la carte restaurant. Prices for meals at any buffet, dinner show, or family style restaurant are based on age. If you are an adult then you will be charged an adult price. Period. You cannot share a meal at a buffet or family style spot. Every person at the table is charged for the meal no matter how much or little they eat. If this is not suitable for you, then you will have to choose alternate dining arrangements. Characters can still be seen and interacted with in the parks.

Oh yes, I knew the DDP wouldn't be good for us this time! Much cheaper without it based on what I can eat.

I am bringing protein powder for shakes. I do have to watch breading on meats and sugar in sauces but otherwise, I can eat meat with veggies no problem. The portion sizes are a problem. That is why I thought of sharing a meal with dd.

I'm not sure what CS stands for but I was thinking chef salads would be great to share. I'm afraid of taking food back to the resort in case it spoils. We don't want to get sick on our trip!

Thank you for all of the tips! I am looking through menus and food pictures to see the size of meals and prices.

One big issue is I hate counter service where you stand in crowded lines and can't find a place to sit. With a,child with autism, this is hard for us. Sit down restaurants are easier.

I'll take all the tips I an get. :)

I had weight loss surgery 5 years ago and I still only eat small portions, although a little more than within the first couple of years. We still do the dining plan every trip as my son and husband enjoy eating and I won't let my weight loss surgery change everyone's choice restaurants. I just look at it as I'm still an adult so I do pay the adult price for buffets even though I may only eat 1/2 cup of fruit. I have never tried to use the card at Disney World.

CS stands for Counter Service, not Caesar Salad. You said you hated CS, so that will also be a problem for you

My surgery is duodenal switch, I don't dump. I feel better though eating high protein and low carb. I can drink with meals. I don't know how I would do it if I couldn't! I get thirsty!

My surgery was about 10 months ago, I've lost about 125 lbs. I still have 25 lbs to go.

I may be worrying about what to eat and wasting food but it is much better than last trip...when I was worried about fitting rides, being exhausted, swelling legs, plane seatbelt not fitting, etc. this time I know physically I will be fine! it's just food, no big deal!

I may be eating chicken breast and salads for every meal but that will work lol I'll be at WDW! :wizard::yay:

Signature dining are the more expensive, table service places that require 2 credits. Counter service at WDW might work ok if you go at unorthodox times and someone gets a table while someone else gets the food. There are may counter service salads that have a great mix of veggies and chicken breast. I also recommend the strawberry chicken salad at the plaza...still a huge salad that you will need to share. I only take food back with me if I am at an out of park restaurant and heading back to my villa. I would never carry food around the parks as I wouldn be afraid of it spoiling. I have the band so I cannot eat and drink during a meal. I drink up to an hour before a meal and not until an hour after. It used to be hard, but I have gotten used to it.

Thank you :)

It will only be my daughter and I on this trip. But I am planning on eating early or late to bypass the crowds hopefully!

Suggestion for you...don't do the DDP. Book a DVC villa or the FW Cabins, you will have a full kitchen, you can bring food with you or order from the Garden Grocer online and they deliver to your resort. We ordered our water, breakfast stuff, snacks, and more~. We never do the DDP, way too much food, and forget the buffets. FYI. at the DVC villas/and Cabins they do daily mousekeeping and your dishes. You don't have to "cook" on your vacation but but this is the best alternative to dining out 3 times a day. We love having breakfast in at the villa, bring snacks and water into the parks, and going back to the villa for a rest/pool break and a sandwich/salad for a late lunch and then a TS (table service, sit down restaurant) for a later dinner at a resort or park. We do not do the DDP we pay out of pocket, which works great for us. Enjoy what ever you do!

I had the gastric bypass surgery in 2004 losing almost 150 lbs been to Disney World or the Disney Cruise over 15 times since then-- I always tell the server that it takes me longer to eat and not to rush serving each course and that I will not be eating my entire meal-- always ask for take out box -- especially if my son is with us. I don get the desserts even if I only take two bites. One of the first things my doctor told us is not to feel guilty about leaving food and not to worry about having leftovers. I often will each the leftovers for lunch one day. We always do the dining plan, I don't like the children menu. I only order water but I still don't drink and eat it when I meals. Have fun while you are at Disney and don't worry about wasting food.

I'll have to make a note of that! I didn't think of telling the servers that!

At home when we eat out, I always, bring home leftovers and save for lunch the next day. At WDW though, it takes too long to get back to the resort.

If we had others going, the dining plan might work better but my daughter would never be able to eat that much--- her portions and what I have leftover. It is more cost effective to order w/o the dining plan.

One buffet we have to do this time is the one with stitch. We missed it last time and dd loves him! It'll be worth it just to interact with him.

I am seeing that dd10 will be charged as an adult now since she is 10 . I didn't realize that. I guess no kids menus. Splitting one adult meal will for sure be plenty of food for,us!

Glad I saw this thread. I had Gastric Sleeve 5 months ago, and we are leaving for WDW in 13 days. We have the free dining plan, and I just figure that I will order what I want (sticking, of course largely to protein and skipping carbs), and what I don't eat, I don't eat. I'm able to eat anything, nothing bothers my sleeve that I've discovered yet, so that won't be an issue. DS10 is autistic and an extremely picky eater, so I assume there will be meals where I order some sort of meat with a side of fries, and he will eat those along with whatever else I have packed in my bag for him ( pb&j, carrot sticks, etc.). This will have the added benefit of reserving a couple of TS credits for DH and I when we go out one night while the kids go to the Sandcastle Club. ;)

I'm looking forward to eating on the FDP. We rarely go out to eat anymore, because I hate to leave food behind, feel like it's such a waste of money, and I'm not much of a leftovers person.

Dd will eat anything but no sugar, caffeine. The only problem we had her last birthday trip was every restaurant pushing free cakes on us. I requested fruit instead but wow. The whole week every time we ate, someone was trying to feed, her cake. :) :sad2:
