Anyone with a french door fridge that has held up for 4 years?

The ice maker in our refrigerator has gone out and we're considering this as a good time to switch to a new french door model.

But then I read the reviews. Ugh! Horrible reviews are plentiful for every brand -- Kitchenaid, LG, Whirlpool, etc.

I have about $1,500 - $2,000 to spend and just HATE the idea of it not lasting more than 5 years. And so many people have said that even with buying an extended warranty from Lowes, Home Depot or Best Buy, when you have a breakdown it's not covered.


Can anyone recommend a fridge that has lasted??

We have one for 3 years and ours is great.

IDK why people have problems with them? We've never ever had any problems with ours. Maybe we're lucky ?

We've had a Kenmore for seven years with no problems other than cracking of the seal where the two upper doors come together. It hasn't caused any leakage issues so we haven't bothered replacing it.

I'd love to know this too. When we bought our first home, 8ish years ago, there were no appliances and we were on a very tight budget to purchase them so we went with low-end options... Like $2000 total for stove, fridge, washer and dryer. The stove already died and has been replaced, but now it is the fridge on its last leg (washer & dryer too, but that's another thread ).

We have more cash to spend now but I have no idea what to buy... It doesn't seem like anything gets good reviews unless you go all the way up to $2500+, and I want something that is going to last longer than its $500 counterpart. But from the reviews I'm reading I'm starting to think the best I can hope for in the $1500-2000 range is something with more bells and whistles that will die just as quickly as my cheap one.

I have an LG that's eight years old that we've never had an issue with (knock on wood), but I think it was a more expensive model than what you are talking about).

We've bought extended warranties for years and often get our money out of them - and have never had anything not covered. I know people say they aren't a good deal, but the washer has been fixed four times for free and the TV twice.

I wonder if people just don't think to do reviews unless something goes wrong. Our fridge has worked fine for 8 years, but it's never occurred to me that I should go review it, whereas if it had broken I might have.

We've had a Samsung for about 3 years. My parents have had their Samsung for about 4.5 years. I love mine.

As for Kenmore, that is just a name, the actual manufacturer varies-some are GE, LG, Whirlpool, etc. You have to research the model number. There are sites that you can find out what your Kenmore actually is.

We've had a Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerator with an in-door ice-maker for over 7 years now and it still works just fine. There was a small problem with the lighting in the refrigerator part but it was easily fixed by my dad with the help of the Internet (saves a lot of $$$). I've read bad reviews about our particular model but we never had any problem apart from the one about the light.
Our 2nd fridge, in the basement, is a regular one (freezer on top) and it works fine after 20 years!

i worked at Whirlpool/Kitchenaid for 6 years before I left to be a SAHM, all our appliances are Kitchenaid. The frige we have is freezer on the bottom, french door frige section its around 8 or 9 years old. I love it. No complaints.

We have a GE side by side that is 4 years old. The ice maker started acting up a month ago (not producing ice). From what i read the water filter can cause it to stop producing when it needs to be changed. We have never changed it so I got a nice sticker shock when I found out it is a $45 filter. Then the arms started breaking off & it's still not working right. I'm just suggesting to maybe see what the required maintenance on the new one is (such as filters) & price those before buying.

We got our LG french door refrigerator in 2004-eight years and still going strong! Haven't had any problems!

7 year old stainless steel French door Jenn-Air. Never had a problem.

We have a stainless steel Samsung with 2 doors, a chiller drawer, and bottom drawer freezer, and we love it - no problems. Had a Kenmore before that and no problems with it either, just decided with age we'd get a new one before the old one broke.

Ditto - ours is from 2007. It has a dent, but that's not the manufacturer's fault. Darn slippery jars of pickles!

I recently switched to a French door refrigerator in Dec. no problems so far (thank goodness) while the fridge portion is great lots of room, the freezer portion makes me regret purchasing one. I like shelfs in a freezer and while I keep my fridge organized I feel things get lost at the bottom.

are any of your French door refrigs counter-depth or the standard depth? My DH seems to think the counter-depth models are closer to 4K!!
