I have been following this thread because I'm a huge fan of the original but I'm waiting till all the episodes air so I can binge watch this one.
From what you all say I'm not sure I want too, yet I am so intrigued by how bad it seems that I have too

Me too- waiting until maybe summer and all reviews are out. I might watch the original series again first (or after). It’s the one series that I still have on DVD, plus the movies.

It’s really not as bad as people are making it out to be. They wanted more SATC, and this isn’t it…but it was never intended to be. Watch it and be your own judge.

Why does this bug you? It's like a sticking point to you so much so that you've made it a point to tsk people on this thread (although in a general sense) for daring to compare a continuation of a series (not a reboot with new cast but a straight up continuation) to the original series run and the movies. Seems extremely logical to actually compare. If it was a reboot with a whole new cast, new characters but just in the same vein of sex and the city I would agree but this is the same actors/actresses, same characters, same overall plot points which by the way people have pointed out with respects to the characters and their issues with not allowing themselves to be alone and that Carrie was just on a track to fill the void of Big leaving, etc. Seems like it would be quite fine to compare to me. Whether you (general you) are fine with the show or not is entirely different.

Yes, I will definitely watch it at some point. I’m sad about some changes (especially those involving real life deaths) but change isn’t always a negative thing, at least for me. Once I’ve actually watched it, I will be able to contribute on whether it was a yea or nay or me.

I will definitely be my own judge but I admit I was hoping for more SATC because that is the show I loved.

It is really nothing like SatC… it’s completely lost its verve & fun charm & is basically the 3 main characters acting old & confused in the modern, progressive world w/ Miranda completely acting against everything she was in the former series…

But it will make you want to rewatch SatC, &, so you will & then will notice even more differences & will appreciate how well the original SatC could write hot-button issues w/o actually preaching to the audience.

I’m in my late 40s & live in the South & am offended for women (& men) in their 50s living in NYC.

See, I don’t see it as a bad thing that it’s not exactly like SATC. They were 20 years younger then and I don’t think the stories would translate to women in their 50s. I’d find it rather sad to see Carrie have a bed buddy or demand Charlotte give her money to pay off one bill or another. I want it to keep the fun parts, but storylines naturally change as people age.

I personally loved the lunch with them talking about Charlottes…issue. Adding in Anthony would have kicked it up a notch and made it out and out hilarious.

Yes, enjoyed the show especially young Carrie (AnnaSophia Robb). The series focused on her relationship with her father, sister, friends, boys, and a budding fashion interest. They lived in CT I believe, but she went into NYC for an internship and for parties. Like SATC, Carrie Diaries was a show about her strong relationships.

It got me thinking- never a mention of Carrie’s family on SATC that I can recall anyway. The other characters on SATC had family, but not Carrie. Am I right? I have to get to rewatching the old series and then take the leap to the new.

Your last paragraph I immediately thought of when reading your first. I agree that her style is very out there, nothing like what I would wear, but cheerful in the way she pulls together “high fashion”. One of my favorite scenes, I believe it was from one of the movies, is when she tries on a series of designer wedding gowns. That was before I planned my wedding, or around that time, and I was so envious even though some of those gowns were

I seem to recall her father walked out in her and her mother when she was little. No mention of other family that I can recall.

Another TV show character has a (non-lethal) heart attack while riding a Peloton bike. The character in Billions even referenced Big's heart attack moment, (added in post-production.) "I'm not going out like Mr. Big," the character says in the Billions.

Poor Peloton! "Peloton (PTON) said in a statement that although they understand why their products are sometimes featured in television shows, they did not agree for their brand and IP to be used on Billions."

It remains to be seen whether their stock tumbles again.

I laughed out loud so many times during this week's episode, especially all the stuff with Charlotte and Lily. And Anthony's reaction to his date...hilarious.

I feel like each episode has been a little funnier than the one before and has felt more and more familiar with the exception of Miranda's whole storyline. I just cringe every time she's on screen now, just so different from the Miranda we knew before. My heart was breaking for poor Steve this week.
