Anyone want to travel with me to Walt Disney World in May 2010?

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum, so pardon me if this isn't allowed or anything.

I read about travelling solo to WDW, but I have finally decided that it really isn't for me, because I will absolutely need someone to chat and have fun with (no offense to any solo travellers). Plus my family would probably be out of their minds with worry if I do go solo. Going solo and getting to know people (like the DISers) while there would be great, but I need someone to share a room with me as well.

I am an exchange student (from Singapore), currently studying in Baltimore, and it's been my goal ever since I came here to experience Disneyland. Unfortunately I came here alone, so it's really hard to find someone to go with me.

I'm basically looking for any friendly, fun-loving female around my age (23) who is as crazy about Disney as I am and who hopefully hasn't visited Florida yet (so that we can see the rest of Florida together after DWD).

I am looking at spending 5 days just being Disney crazy, and then hopefully visiting parks like SeaWorld or Universal Studios and then shopping and other sight-seeing stuff of course. I am only available after May 8th, because that's when semester ends for my college.

If any female traveler is keen, please do let me know!

My family would be more worried about sharing a room with a stranger than hitting the World solo. Single White Female, anyone? Check out the May 2010 DISmeet thread, though.

Ah... thanks for the heads up, but I think I'll risk it. But I doubt psychos or serial killers will stalk the disboards (I know I know, you never know). I just need someone to explore Florida with, or I will just have to come back to the USA another time, which will be a real pity since I'm already here.

Okay, so the May DISmeet takes place the weekend of the 13th through the 17th of May. We have ALL ages included in our group. Here is a link to the May Meet.

May Meet

Who is the single white female?

I don't know how you're going to survive until December for your singles meet.

OP, I hate to be a Debbie-downer, but I don't think you'll find someone here to room with, but you will find several people to tour and explore with you. If you'll risk rooming with a stranger, why not risk rooming solo? If it's the money, grab a room at a value or near DTD. I'd hate for you to miss WDW if you have the chance just because you can't find a roomie.

Thanks a lot! That timing will be really convenient for me. I'm scared though, because I'm not American, I'm literally from the other side of the world, so I'm wondering how I'm going to click with everyone else.

Thanks again for the honesty, but still keeping my hopes up!

However, in the end, if I can't find anyone, I think I will take your advice and go solo but meet up with people. I think I'll get one of the value resorts, since it's just better to experience all of the Magic when I go. I'll just be in Walt Disney World then, the rest of Florida can wait till another time.

Hey, this board's all about excuses for heading to WDW as many times as possible. If you're coming back to explore Florida, it just makes sense to hit WDW again. This could be a blessing in disguise. ;)

Hey. I'm on the same boat, except I'm a guy. Would love to find other people to share a room with.

I also wouldn't be comfortable rooming with someone I didn't know, however for the May meet we will be scattered throughout WDW at Disney resorts. Some at values, some DVC, etc. Please feel free to join us for any of the group activities...we hit rides together, etc. You may be rooming alone but you won't be at WDW alone :).

If it makes you feel better I went to Tokyo twice, basically by myself. My boyfriend (now ex :) ) at the time was working there, but I flew in alone, got through the airport and to the hotel alone, explored most of Tokyo by myself since he was working during the days. I just made sure I was prepared before I got there so I knew what to expect. I wouldn't let being solo stop you from doing something you want to do. WDW is so insulated...you don't have to worry about transportation, etc. that I think it is a great place for a solo traveler from another part of the world.

WOW!!!

My family and I were in Singapore for six months! Iwish I could go along with ya to WDW. I also live MD area so maybe we can could meet up locally first and then revisit the idea of going to WDW together.
Oh however, I'm not in your age group but I'm still a crazy disney fan. LOL ! Drop me note and we'll see.

Thanks so much for your comment!! I would love love to join, I'm just scared stiff because I've never done this before, and I hope to have people talking to me and not ignoring me (I have to talk and initiate a LOT in Baltimore because everyone has their own cliques.. it's getting tiring). I'm pretty much determined to experience WDW, with or without someone.

Hey, awesome! Oh why such a long stay in SG? Funny thing, I'll be here for around 6 months too. Unfortunately, I can't drop a note as I don't have the required 10 posts yet, but you are more than welcome to email me at cherlyn4[at]gmail.com (will edit this out once you've seen it). If you don't mind me asking, what is your age? Because, not to be offensive or anything, but sometimes it's the generation gap that prevents people from really clicking, so I thought that I would have the best chance with someone near my age. Plus I'm full of energy and I want to do EVERYTHING, so riding rides more suitable for kids may not be what someone more senior will want to do (again, no offense).

Many of us went into last May as strangers and I have formed some great friendships from it. This is a great group...very welcoming...don't worry about people not talking to you :).

I remember I was recovering from the flu last May, we were all in Epcot and I was lagging behind a bit. Patty turned around, saw I was way behind and yelled to everyone, "Hold on we have to wait for Amy!". People won't leave you out. Try to come to the meets we have planned, that will be the best way to get to know everyone.

good for you:thumbsup2
As other posters mentioned it will probably be tough to get someone to share a room with you. (alot of people in the U.S.A. don't usually do things like that) but I bet if you book a trip on your own and do a dis meet, or post your dates asking other dis'ers to meet up for a day, they'd be happy to do so.

I think Dis'ers are warm people and want everyone to feel included. (transportation board excluded:laughing:)
We all share the same love (ahem...obsession).

Book it, have fun....

Ah, I see. I guess I was naive, because girls in my country usually would trust each other to do things like that. Not comparing, just in case someone takes offense, but I didn't take the culture difference into consideration when I posted up this thread.

I am currently talking to my Disney travel agent for a 7-day trip, am positively thrilled to be finally going. I think I will be there from May 13th to May 19th, just the right dates for the dis meet. =) Excited to meet everyone.

We will be there the 12th thru the 19th, with DD 18.
Can't wait to meet you at some of the meets. Make sure to get Darcy your phone numbers and such so we can keep in touch while at the parks! You should do that thru the other thread though...

I saw this message and had to post. I live in Baltimore right now. I am actually taking the Auto train down leaving Lorton on May 6th. My parents have a time share down there so I have a super cheap place to stay. Not on WDW property but close enough plus I will have my car thanks to Amtrak.

I was at WDW last year alone and had a great time. I also love traveling solo. If you are interested in meeting here to see if we click then maybe I would be willing to share space with you at the time share. I have a place that fits 8 but so far I am the only confirmed person.

Hey, so sorry, I didn't see this! Thanks so very much for the great offer, but it would be too much of a hassle for you, and I would not want to intrude. I also prefer to stay on WDW property to experience all of the Magic, and I've just finished confirming things with my travel agent and have booked my awesome vacation at POP May 13th to May 14th. Incredibly excited, are you going to the Dis meetings?
