I have so many questions. 99% of them have to do with buying DVC at resale. I was wondering if anyone had the time that I could maybe PM questions to since I don't want to break any DISboard rules. We have take the DVC in December and I am pretty sure I know all I need to know about buying direct, but it really seems that buying resale is the way to go. If anyone would not mind me bothering you from time to time with questions I really would appreciate it. :flower:

If you do some searches, you should be able to find most everything.

I agree that resale is better for almost everyone.

Feel free to ask questions here if you're not having any luck with the searches...

Bother away. I am still going through the process, but if there is anything I can answer for you, please don't hesitate to ask.

Owner since 2006 (505 points in 7 contracts via resale and direct at 4 home resorts) and would love to answer your questions. But if we can't say it in a post, we can't say it in PM either (they will moderate that).

Right now I was looking to get an idea of where people buy their resale from? And what are the disadvantages to resale(I know not points on cruises), but what else?

i bought from the timeshare store.

disadvantages to resale:

main disadvantage to resale is that it tends to take longer (usually a couple of months) - if you buy direct, you can book something immediately (and a guide may be able to help you book your first reservation).

also, you can't use pts for disney cruises, disney hotels and a few other options (think: fancy resorts like the hotel del coronado in san diego). this is not really a disadvantage, though, since point costs for trades tend to be pretty high

you can still rent out your resale pts and use the cash to pay for exactly what you want.

for the dollars saved, resale is a much better way to go.

It used to be that buying direct was faster but now there are waiting lists for most resorts and UY so it could take a while to buy direct (unless you buy the new Poly). Also, closing costs are more with resale...used to be that direct had NO closing costs but then they starting to charge them and those have climbed, still less than resale but getting pretty close (and I suspect they will be the same someday). The price is the biggest difference and resale WILL save you tons of money. I added my last 2 contracts via direct and went direct because we wanted our UY at BWV 55 points and then 25 points (hard to get the smaller contracts via resale). At the time we went direct the price difference wasn't too much but with the latest direct price increase I wouldn't even buy a small contract direct now.

I have a favorite resale broker. I have used 3 of the main ones and tried to use a 4th and I have an order of preference but would go where the best contract is...there is only 1/4 that I have had experience with that I would NOT use in the future and that is Fidelity (the broker we TRIED to use...contract got cancelled on us)...just my opinion and experience (your mileage may vary).

We are currently using Dvc magic resale and Rachel has done a great job so far. I'm following this thread as this is our first time buying resale. Good luck
