So after reading the the thread about people not caring about free dining so much, it got me thinking:idea: Too bad I'm a tart when it comes to math:confused3

In the past I have always done the free dining and upgraded to the Dxdp! Which I LOVE! We plan it in such a way that we don't eat three meals a day though...so not too much food as many people say. Anywho, not the point! In the past I have done a value and a mod. Next year we are planning AKL:woohoo: Oh, my DD will also be considered an "adult" next year :headache: Would it be more of a saving for me to do free dining and upgrade to DxDP OR to use a 40% room code and just pay for the DxDP?

and go...

TIA :)

Oh 4 people total. 3 adults, and 1 child :)

It depends :rotfl2:

What room type are you thinking of booking?
The math is really simple.

A) Cost of adult DDP x 3 + cost of child DDP.
B) Room rate x .4

If A is a bigger # then free dining is a better deal for you; if B is a bigger # then 40% off room only is a better deal. 2011 package rates come out soon. Maybe this Sunday, at that point you'll have the real numbers to work with. (and yes, post the room type and your exact dates and someone here will do the math for you).

Option the 3rd if DDP is cheaper. Split resie, a couple of room only nights on the end of your stay because by then you'll be full anyway! You'll save enough to pay for the DxDP upgrade, I bet.

That's why I did this post :rotfl: Don't feel like doing all the math . Well ear.lier that was the case.. my mind has recently left me and felt the need to post this lol! Thanks for your help though!

Oh, and I think we are going to book just a standard view..although, I'm gonna go make a poll on resort forum and see if that is a good idea

Based on 2010 rates, a standard view room is $240 during September. A 40% off discount would be a savings of $96/night.

The free dining plan saves your (2010 rates), $41.99 per person and $11.99 per child or almost $138.

With this room type, it would still be cheaper to take the free dining and upgrade to the deluxe plan.

My opinion, go for a view. It is so delightful to wake up to the animals.

Value season standard room 2010 was $240 so 40% would be $96 so free Dining would have more value (about $132, I think- rounding).

Regular season standard view was $300 so 40% is $120 free Dining is still slightly more valuable.

Value Savanna view was $310 numbers are really close to Regular season standard view.

Value Season Club Level room was $350 at this point 40% off is worth $140 which I think is slightly more valuable than free Dining. This would be my pick, assuming value season. But I can't not stay on the Savanna and for $30 more a night I think it is a deal (that's w/40% off).

Now if the dining plan prices go up more than the rooms, which has happened in the past, then it changes everything.

Ok because I love these things, here is my rough math
Using this years discount of 40% off the room rate for a stay Sept. 12th-19th with 8day MYW ticket and DDXP standard room at AKL, $3771.81
For the free dining code same set up $3562.09

thank you all so much! I figured dining would be better for us! but i was second guessing my own math! i'm just excited to stay at AKL!!:goodvibes
