Just wondering if anyone has tried the travel space bags for their cruise? We are trying to avoid taking to much luggage with us and thought this may be a way to help accomplish that task. For those who have used them can you please give us both the pros and cons (if any).

Thanks
Scott and Sunny

We got some of those bags after we go back from last years cruise. We have used them to store seasonal clothing around the house and to take swim suits, t-shirts, undies and that type items on trips. We love them and will be using them on this years cruise. Saves about 1/2 the space.
Be sure to purchase the roll up type and not the kind you would need to use a vacuum.
We bought some from QVC and stored comforters and blankets after the winter chills went away. On those you do use a vacuum. It is amazing to watch a bunch of bedding be reduced to a 4"high stack that is hard as a rock.
Bed, Bath and Beyond in our area had them on display last month.

Scott:

Grove City here and if you find out where to find the bags locally please let me know.

Kathleen :)

If you can't find them locally, you can order them online HERE.

Thanks for the info...Sounds like something we should get for out cruise! There are tons of them for sale on Ebay but I wanted to make sure they were good to use before spending the $.

kfahygc: I will let you know if we find them for a good price around town! If not Ebay may be the way to go

We used them when we went on our cruise in Sept. (And every other time we travel for that matter)

THEY ARE AWESOME! They really do make a difference. We used to pack with LOTS of ziplocks, but they would hold so little comared to the space bags.

BIL and SIL turned us on to them, and now we don't leave home without them!

I used the vacuum type and they were great, the travel ones are good but not as great as the vacuum type.....when I was going home I just asked the room steward if I could use the vacuum and I shrunk them all back up before going home so the fit in the suitcase!

Just thought I would let ya know that they are available at Walgreens. 2 yrs ago We took 9 of our family members all piled into 1 mini van & there was no room 4 luggage at all. We got a very large leather carrier for the top & everyone was given 1 space bag a piece for 6 full nites. It worked out great !!!!
After a 21 hr car ride we arrived. It was a trip of a life time. My 4 kids had both grandmas & a cousin that they haven't seen now in a yr. It was totally crazy but when I look back I still think it will be the most memorable trip ever. PS if you get the vac. kind the maid will always let you borrow the vac !!!

If Airport Security wants to check the contents of your bags - is there a chance that they ask you to open these? Then what will you do to get everything to fit in the suitcase again?

The bags are completely clear they can see right thru them.

Post 9/11, it doesn't matter. My employer's wife specfically put her "unmentionables" in ziploc bags so that if their bags were searched, strangers wouldn't be handling them. It didn't make a difference... their bags were searched and the screeners opened the ziploc bags and took them out. They will check between folded up clothing for dangerous items as well.

If using the space bags in your carry-ons, I would definitely recommend the roll type and not the vacuum type. At least you can re-roll after the security check if you have to.

These sound wonderful! Anyone seen them lately at a National Chain Retailer, like Walmart or Target? I want to get some!
Thanks!

They sell them in Costco and they are pretty cheap there! I got 2 pack for what it would have cost to buy one elsewhere.

Never used one myself, but they sound good!.

Do your clothes come out badly creased?

That's what the Downy Wrinkle Releaser is for! Between the space bags and the DWR....I am overpacked and I look GOOD!

I only had one thing in the bag that wrinkled and I hung it in the shower and it was fine the next day the rest of the things in there were just fine!

I bought some of these yesterday at Walgreens. They were $5.99 and there were 2 in box. I had to buy the large size because they didn't have anything smaller. They do require a vaccuum so I'll have to do like aprilgail2 and borrow one from the room steward. If you want them, get them quick while Walgreens is running this sale. :)

I bought the Travel Pack (2 large + 2 medium) on sale at Ames for $10.00. They are the roll-up type.
