Anyone use Pedi Paws?

It sucks! As soon as you put the slightest pressure on it the thing stops! I would never recommend this thing to anyone!

We have it and love it. I think it works great. For me, if I use light pressure it doesn't stop, and that's enough to file Max's nails (and he's a large dog). It only stops when I press hard.

I bought the Peticure tool...the expensive one that plugs into the wall. It was about $70 shipped. It works great and has actually allowed me to gradually shorten my elderly dog's nails that the quick had gotten very long in and consequently the nail as well. My dogs don't love it, but they put up with it. They are larger dogs...50-60 lbs.

You can purchase a 2 yr warranty for the Peticure. I didn't and had a problem with mine...nail shavings got down around the motor. Luckily, my dad was able to take it apart and fix it.

That said, I have heard a Dremel tool will do the same thing for much cheaper and you can buy a "guard" to put on the Dremel.

I bought one for my dogs. Their nails have grown out of control. My only problem with it is that I haven't been able to have them tolerate the tool at all, so there's all kinds of drama when we use it. Whining, nipping, flailing... DH has to get on top of them to hold them down. We tried all the tips and advice to get them used to it, but my dogs just don't buy it.

If the nails are long like my dogs', you can't just use it and expect great results. You have to file them down a little bit at a time, so that's what we've been doing.

That's what I've been afraid of. Our Doxie is scared of the clipper; I can't imagine that this would be any better. Heck....this is a nail clipper with a MOTOR! It's like a vacuum and a nail clipper, the 2 things he's most scared of, rolled into 1.

How much do groomers charge for just a nail clipping?

Our groomer (or the vet, for that matter) charges $10 to do nails.

Around here it's about $5.

I'm kind of thinking of having a groomer get the nails to a decent length and then using the Pedipaws for maintenance.

I just think if a dog doesn't like its paws messed with, there will be no getting used to anything.

PetSmart is $9 to clip nails, $11 to file. We have a lab too, and we are hesitant to try any rotary tool ourselves because we're sure he'd spaz at the sound. We have a nail clipper, but his nails are so thick and brittle that we can't do it ourselves. Last week was the first we used PetSmart. Quick and painless on the pocketbook.

Mine too, I have 2 Doxies a boy(The bad One) and Miss Lady who is in a cart, and only uses the front paws to wheel around with, so her nails have to be done. I was thinking of getting one of the Pedipaws but DH said "it would be a waste of money" so I am glad I didn't.

WE have the PediPaws and it works great on our Boxer......he lays there and lets me do his nails. His nails are short and smooth, so no more accidental scratches anymore.

I showed it to him the first time, turned it on and let him sniff it. The first time we used it, my daughter gave him peanut butter on a spoon. Now he just lays there as he knows it isn't going to hurt.

Best $15 I spent on him.........

Should outdoor cats have their nails trimmed?

DH thinks the nails should be trimmed so he can play with the kitty to the point that she goes nutso wild and not get scratched.

I'm thinking an outdoor cat needs its claws to protect itself. And if her human friends don't wish to be scratched, they shouldn't work her up so much.

The vet was on the fence and said that the cat would be okay outside with trimmed nails. He just didn't have the oomph to that statement he usually does. Plus, he thinks it is my cat and that I shouldn't let it out. He doesn't realize it is an outdoor cat that I just let in.

Anyone know (or have an opinion) about this? (The nail-trimming, not whether or not the cat is mine.)

We have 2 mini-doxies that STILL try to attack the vaccuum every time I run it... and they are almost 3 years old! It's pure entertainmemt for the whole family!
