Anyone use Online Money Management Tools?

I keep my checkbook on my computer. I've had a hard drive crash, so my entire checkbook history is gone. That's not a big huge deal because I do online banking and keep a rudimentary paper system. I've used both Quicken and Microsoft Money.

Does anyone use an online type service that would do the same thing? I keep track of budget items like groceries, gasoline, house projects, tuition payments, etc.

I looked at Mint (dot) com, but I'm not sure if it will do the budget breakdown like quicken and microsoft money.

Thanks in advance.

Are you sure your hard drive is not recoverable?

I use Quicken. I back up the file to another computer and to an external hard drive. Periodically I burn it to a CD. I won't take the chance of losing years of family financial records and records of my home business.

It's possible to save files to cloud backup services, something like Dropbox.

Mint automatically categorizes your credit card charges, etc. You can change these if they are incorrect. I think you can add transactions such as cash as well, but I have not tried that yet. I usually charge everything for points/rewards, so my cash spending is next to nothing.

I have used mint and found it very handy. It auto categorizes your items, but it is eaasy to change them if you don't like what they did.

We started using mint after reading about it here on the budget board. It's been 8 months now and we love it. It breaks it all down and is very easy to keep track of everything, with payment reminders - but we've never used anything else...so I can't comment on the difference.

Mint is great. Not perfect and it has a few bugs here and there, but it is free and very robust and simple to use with powerful tools if you want to use those. They also have a mobile app so you can check it on your smart phone or computer. Very handy when out and about and wondering if you have enough left in your budget for something you see and want, etc.
