Anyone use mint mobile or red pocket for cell service?

I hardly make calls, mostly text with family, use phone for check weather, news, disboards (of course). Right now I'm on my DS's plan. But they plan to get DGS a phone soon, so my free ride is coming to an end.

Both have cheap plans ($15-20 a month), that fit my needs, but I'm concern what happens when you exceed your data limit. I wish they had rollover with data.

Curious about those as well. They seem to do a lot of TV advertising and the price is lower then regular cell phone service from other major carriers. I wonder if this is an example of you get what you pay for and the sound quality is poor, spotty reception or exhorbitant data charges when you exceed your monthly limit.

I have mint. It works well. We do have some poor data spots in town though. I’ve never even come close to exceeding my data plan. We have wifi at home. If you are relying on cellular at home at use a hotpot to stream Netflix, then you want an unlimited data plan.

Just to clarify- you use your phone as a hotspot or are you using a stand-alone hotspot device?
If it's the former, that's pretty good. I just never thought to use a phone hotspot on a smart TV, but if it works, I'll try it.

My kids and I use Tello, another low cost carrier that uses T-Mobile's network. I've got wi-fi at home and work and don't do a whole lot else, so .5-1 GB/mo is plenty for me. There's kind of a little trick, where if you go in and renew your service before it automatically renews, your unused data and minutes roll over. Works well for us, except for the frustration I go through once every year or two when I forget to renew early and get reset (it's pretty meaningless, I just don't need the data that much).

My older teen is on 2GB/mo and it's not really enough, because she's incapable of rationing her data. She ends up downgraded to free 2G for the rest of the month, which is pretty useless to her, but is enough to keep location services going, so I can make sure she gets home from school safely. I've considered switching her to Mint with a promo so she can have more data.

I use about 2 a month . I use the phone in the car, while DH is driving. Have home wifi. Most I used was 4 G on a disney trip during that month.

The lowest level is 4 GB a month with mint, or 3 GB with rocket.

I don't need the phone for work , just mostly just in case the car falls apart or seeing what DGs are doing or if DD wants this item on sale at grocery store.

The best deal at mint is buying 1 year , $180 @4 GB a month, unlimited texts and calls.

Just concern signing up for a year.

Thanks to all for the information.

I was just using that as an example. If OP only has cellular at home and no wifi, then they should get an unlimited data plan. I’m not sure if you can stream Netflix over cellular, but if YouTube videos work over cellular then Netflix probably does as well and that will go through data real quick.

my kids have Tello plans. They are on the 500mb plan and 100 mins. It’s $6 a month.
