Anyone try to buy BCV direct recently?

We bought 100 pts at OKW last year we wanted a June use year, and it took only a day or two for them to call us and let us know they had a contract for us. We paid in cash over the phone, and within three days of contacting them we had our points. It was great!

This year we want to do the same thing, but at BCV. Do you think we can expect a similar experience? We'll call ourselves after tax day, but I am curious about what we'll learn!

Highly unlikely for them to have BCV direct points the first day you call in. In the past, they also didn't have a waitlist either -- so you had to more or less repeatedly call in to see if there were any available points. When I bought BCV direct last year -- it took about a month for me. The first time I called, he said he would try to remember to keep an eye out and let me know if some points became available. I didn't hear from him for a few weeks (and I had heard of people getting some points), so I called him again, and after putting me on hold for a few minutes, he told me there were some points just made available.

I gave him the credit card number and points were added to my account that day.

Just curious - any particular aversion to buying resale (other than wanting the points by June)? I see at least a couple of June contracts available at a pretty good price. Considering you'll save around $6000 per 100 points, I'd at least look into it!

I'm still not 100% clear as to why, but the only choice I had was February use year, so the points were immediately live. I wanted Feb or Dec, so I didn't probe much. $165 per point.

That's a good point I forgot to mention. My understanding is Disney can breakup points from an acquired contract (e.g., they acquire a contract with 150 points -- they can break it up anyway they sit -- for example three 50 point contracts) -- but they apparently can't alter the UY of the acquired contract.

As such, if it is an initial contract, you basically get whatever UY they have lying around -- which means there's a much greater chance of their having points available for you to buy. For my situation, they had to match a DEC UY, so it was more luck involved.

If time is an issue -- you could always tell them you don't care what the UY is. Of course, this would present several negatives. The biggest would be that you couldn't easily combine your OKW and BCV points at 7 months easily to make a single reservation. yes, you could transfer points from one to the other, but that is a hassle and then requires that you have to call in to make your reservation -- which could prevent you from being able to get the room you wanted (rooms that are available at 8 am aren't always available at 9 am when the phone lines open up).

There are a few reasons, but mostly it's just about comfort and convenience. There is tremendous value to just calling up and giving a card number and getting my points. I trust DVC, I have four contracts with them and each one was simple and seamless. I don't want to deal with sellers and brokers and ROFR. I am well aware of the resale market, I just don't want to fuss with it.

That is again, great info! Timing is something of an issue, I'd like the 2016 points, but it isn't essential. I think the use year is more important. It is already hurting my heart to pay so much for a resort with a 2042 end date, but we like to stay there, and it's getting impossible to switch at 7 months. So, buying before June 1 would soften the blow a bit.

Awesome! The use years you were offered wouldn't work for me, but you guys are giving me some hope. I was worried people would say there is no way to get BCV at the moment.

At least, that would make sense to me, given that they have a committed buyer and can flip ~$100 points for $165.

We bought 25 add on points in March. I wanted March only so it took about 3 months (me emailing the rep weekly) for them to finally have them.

They can break into any size, but cannot change UY.

Glad the wait list worked out for you. It's not always that simple, however. There are dozens if not hundreds of people who want VGC and Disney won't even put them on a wait list, yet I can't remember the last time a VGC contract was taken by ROFR. Keep in mind that the profit margins on direct sales are far greater than what they make selling $100 points for $165. DVD wants to maximize profits and if they think they can steer you towards a newer resort by not granting your wait list request, there's a good chance they'll do it.

It's all about money. If new resort sales are brisk, DVD puts the older resorts on hold. If new resort sales are brisk, it takes longer for ROFR and Estoppel for resale contracts. If they take a lot of contracts back due to foreclosures they will have more to sell. Disney focuses on what makes them the most money.
