Anyone tried to change or cancel flights booked on points?

Curious as to how airlines are handling that situation (specifically Delta). If I change or cancel my points flights I’ll incur $1,200 in “points redeposit fees.”

Around Thanksgiving, we rebooked a flight from US->Chile, to avoid staying in Santiago due to the riots. We used points, but it was on American. We moved to flying on xmas day, which was cheaper than our original flight. My husband called and talked with them; he didn't explain why we were departing later. We paid $50, probably per person, to change the flight. I don't know exactly what you are changing, so it may not apply to you. Good luck! I would just give them a call. They may be understanding under the circumstances.

Booked with points, but we didn't try to change. Agree with @soniam, your best bet is to give them a call.
Maybe the folks at the FrequentFlyer boards (not sure I can link to them) have already shared some info about this?

Here's the FAQ about Delta's award tickets: https://www.delta.com/content/www/en_US/support/faqs/skymiles/award-ticket-faqs.html

Yes. Members can make changes to an Award Ticket up to 72 hours prior to the original departure time (outbound or return). All taxes and fees associated with that ticket will apply. The fee for reissues is $150 USD. The fee is waived for Diamond and Platinum Medallion members, provided the member makes changes at least 72 hours prior to the original flight departure time. Miles for Award Travel are nonrefundable for flights canceled or changed within 72 hours of the original flight departure time. See Award Travel Fees for full terms and conditions.

I do think it's a hefty fee. At AF/KL's loyalty program it's also $50, like on American.
But I would definitely call as with this virus all the normal procedures are being looked at.

Maybe this link will help as well: https://www.delta.com/eu/en/advisories/other-alerts/coronavirus-travel-updates

Good points. I’m not intending to change or cancel at this time; just hoped to know what to expect if I did.

Thanks for this. I have 2 J-class seats on AF for this summer, booked with Flying Blue points. Still not ready to cancel yet, but it's not looking good.

Same for us, one AF flight (two J seats) booked with points and another return trip (two J seats as well) fully paid (in euros).

Unless you have been using “Miles Promo” award (in which case the ticket is non refundable unless AF issues a waiver for this summer), the change fee is modest though (50€/ticket for us).

We got points back when we changed our SW flights from early this week to May. We had to cancel due to illness.

Southwest is very accomodating though compared to the other airlines. However, the others don't really rake you over the coals when you used points.

Thanks. I don't think it was a promo award, but it's been months since I booked. These are from CA to CPH, and then CDG back to CA, so long haul flights (2 long haul, one shorter connecting one inside Europe).

Not sure this would work for you, when I log in to AF and view my reservation, there is some text detailing the change/cancellation process.

Of course AF might as well extend its waiver for this summer (I believe right now it's only until May 31st).

It cannot be a promo reward, as these are only released for travel 2-3 months in advance, next run will be April, which you can book for the entire month of April, for travel in June and July. It's part of my work to publish the new destinations each month on the website ;-)

So it should be a regular reward ticket cancellable up to 2 hours before departure and changeable up to 24 hours before departure against a 50 euro/dollar fee per person :) There could be a difference in airport taxes if you take a new route and/or airline (as in flying with KLM via Amsterdam)

I haven't kept myself up to date with the latest options for online services, but it could indeed be that if you keep every the same and only change the date, so route and/or airline stays the same, it is possible to make a change over the website.

Thank you for this. Definitely not a last minute fare - it was booked Sept. 2019 for Aug/Sept 2020.

The chat option worked for me last thursday. our conference was cancelled. No change/cancellation fee and a year to use vouchers. This was not points, but I expect you to have no problems.

I was able to cancel my flights for the April cruise we had to reschedule that I had purchased with miles with Delta.

-go to my trips
-fill out the info to pull up your flight, which will take you to your flight details
-to the right of the top of the screen, you click on modify which will bring you to another screen
-There are 2 options on this screen I forget the one but it is to the left and it is to modify or cancel your flight and the option to the right is to go back to my trips. Click the one to modify and it will bring you to the next screen
-Here is where you cancel. Mine came up that they were unable to do a refund but they did and I got an email saying so and the miles were back in my account.

Thanks for reporting! Did they charge you the "miles reinstatement fee?"

Jetblue adjusted the website so you could cancel a point based flight online...that is not how it usually works. I did that today and all my points were returned.
