Anyone tried to change or cancel flights booked on points?

That is just wrong. I was very surprised Delta gave me the miles back and not some type of credit to have to use for the next year.
That is AA policy. PP didn’t state how far out the cancelled flight was. You would be better off waiting until the last minute to see if they cancel or make a schedule change. Capacity is going to be reduced over the next few months.

She should have waited. That might have changed things, but I was away and couldn't advise her.
Once her mother's doctor said she couldn't go, she just did it.
Flight was to be in April

AA will always allow you free of charge to change the dates and flights on award tickets as long as your origin and destination don't change. I've never cancelled a flight, but I've heard always wait until the last minute. You might get lucky if there's a schedule change.

I'm in the same boat but with United. I'm waiting to see if United changes its policy. Only as of now, they're asking to rebook within a year to use up the points for one of my affected flights to Vancouver next month without any fees. They even clamped down about the change in schedule where I believe it has to more than a couple of hours...not just 15 minutes. I really want my points back! Don't know if I'll be able to fly in a year with everything changing.

I have an April 2 flight on AA but I booked using Chase Ultimate Rewards points. Since that makes Chase my TA, I have to make changes through them. They posted a statement on their website that they're following each airlines current policy.
I plan to change it to a flight in late Feb 2021 to New Orleans for our WBPC cruise. Right now our flight date is not yet able to book. I should be able to do in 12-13 days. Hopefully the phone wait is not quite so long by that point.

We also have a SW flight that I would love to just cancel and get my points back but we already bought EBCI so I would prefer to just change it to another date. Maybe we'll take a long weekend when things settle down and do a beach trip or a quickie 3-nt cruise. I will be ready for a real vacation by then.
