I'm going to WDW in Dec and am thinking about just checking everything, except my little baggallini messenger bag that would have all my ID, credit cards, and flight information. Unless I buy alot of breakable stuff, I usually check everthing on my return trips anyway. The only reason I use carryons for the flight down is due to a fear of airlines or DME losing my luggage. The only thing that would be in the carry on bag would be a couple changes of clothes. Anyone not taking any carry ons at all?

I love the idea of being able to just walk through the airport without dragging a bag and of just being able to walk onto and off the airplane without messing with the overhead bins or dragging a bag through the aisle.

I do this all the time. I don't find waiting for my luggage that bad and it sure beats lugging it through the airport.

We never carry on anything except a small "carry-bag" that we can stick under the seat.

I usually travel with just a tote sized purse as carryon. It holds shorts/tee shirt, swim suit, book, camera, and my wallet.

We always just bring a small travel bag on the plane with stuff I know we might need. I just don't like having to lug all the bags around the airport. Especially at MCO, usually a pretty long walk from the gate to the baggage area.

I usually carry all my toiletries ( a huge bag) and lots of extra stuff I think I might need for the flight, but when we flew this past August, obviously, I couldn't bring my massive bag of toiletries, so I checked them. I was so stressed out about not having my "stuff" with me, but as it turns out I loved just having my small bag with essentials (photo ID, money, a book, and DH's dvd player etc)

Now I see all these threads with "can I bring my lipstick, deoderant, toothpaste, etc"...I think why bother?? Just check them along with everything else and free yourself of un-needed carry ons!!

Nope, I'm the "first 24 hours of supplies" guy when it comes to carry-ons. I consider it a kind of travel insurance in case my luggage gets delayed. It sure makes the start of a vacation better when you can still fully function even if your luggage hasn't made it yet. Happened to me twice in my life, and both times it made life a lot better.

On the way home, though, I really don't care. THEN, I go as light as possible on the carry-on.

I don't check anything! The first time my luggage came back with a big chalk mark, telling me that it had been opened and inspected...that did it for me. The thought of strangers going through my personal belongings without my being there just grosses me out! I've become an expert packer in a 22" roller suitcase with a matching toiletry bag. Not a hassle at all to roll through the airport, plus I'm guaranteed to not lose anything. :fish: They need a "smilie" carrying luggage!

I've done the no carry-on thing before. Usually on short weekend trips, where if I was going to take the first 24 hours, I might as well do carry-on only. On those rare occasions, I travel in cargo pants with my necessities in the various pockets. I also have a ziploc in there. Empty the pockets into the ziploc, dump it in a bin, and it goes through the x-ray.

Havn't done that since the new liquids ziploc rule. From what I understand, they fuss if you have ziplocs that don't have liquids in them??

Unfortunately, can't do that for any trips longer than the weekend as I have to lug the laptop with me.

The lap top goes with me no matter what. So yes, I always have at least one carry on!

For those of you looking to go no carry on. Do NOT check laptops, cell phones, gameboys, cameras etc... those items are NOT covered by the airline and you will get nothing when they are stolen.

So, I used to Carry On, but the last trip I checked my 2 bags, and what a Relief it was! :thumbsup2 However, in Dec. I will carry on one, and check the other. ;)

We each do a small backpack but thats it. No cloths just electronics ,DD games and some snacks . So we can cut most of that stuff out as it's not allowed on anymore.

I have my laptop and my purse, so that pretty much limits me. I put my purse into a larger bag that fits under the seat so that I can carry some things on the plane - camera, ipod, etc.

Word :thumbsup2

I travel a bit for work and will do just about anything to avoid checking bags. Can't do this on a family vaycay though.

Your lucky if you have never been without your baggage for a day or 3, bring a few essentials is sound advice IMHO :)

I seem to take a very Pollyanna-ish attitude toward luggage. I don't even pack a change of clothes in my carryon. Just what I'll need on the plane and once I arrive (travel documents, ID and credit cards, camera, sunblock, book, knitting). My biggest concession to the idea that my luggage might get lost is packing a spare pair of contact lenses. I used to carry it in a small backpack, but now I've found that my DVC tote bag is exactly the right size. It's not even packed tightly. Some people might say my tote bag is half empty, but I prefer to think of it as half full! ;)

Never check my bags GOING there (wherever there is) unless it's a long trip and I'm taking a large suitcase. I'm too paranoid that my bag will go AWOL - even though I've never had it happen on the return flight when I frequently check bags coming home. BUT the last 4 times I've traveled and checked my bag, my suitcase has been damaged to the point of needing repair (paid for by the damaging airline, of course) on the return flight. I can't imagine if that happened on the flight to a destination. I wouldn't be able to pack to come home!

The last trip (May - WDW) we were traveling for 10 days and had our 18 month old with us, so I took our 26" suitcase and while it did arrive in MCO fine, when we got it back in Denver one leg was broken and the wheel was broken completely off. There we were, tired, late at night, with a bag we couldn't roll now - it wouldn't even stand on its own. We didn't have any change with us (just $10 bills and larger) and everything was pretty much closed, so we couldn't get change for one of the rental luggage carts. We had to pull 2 carry on bags (on wheels), carry the heavy suitcase that was now unable to roll, carry a car seat and carry/deal with a cranky toddler. It was BAD.

I always check bags and breeze onto the plane unencumbered. That way I
can help the folks that are struggling to get theirs up in the bins. That can
really create back-ups! ;)
