I got an invitation today to a baby shower for a friend.
This is an older mom, who is being watched closely.

Heres the weird part. The baby is due December the 18th, and the Baby shower is August 15th.

That just strikes me as WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY to early the baby isn't even half way here yet. Is it just me? Or is this really early?

My cousins shower is this weekend, and her twins are due in a month. That seems about right.::yes::

Seems early to me, but maybe they have a legitimate reason why they're doing it then... like certain relatives in town for it, or the likelyhood of her going on bedrest the last couple months and not being able to attend herself, or something.

I'd be likely to ask why it's so early myself because it would bug me to not know! LOL

That is early. Is she a first time mom that prepares for everything way ahead of time? Who is throwing the shower for her? Maybe they have their reasons behind the timing-ex. someone going into the war and they want that special person to be there...

Well, if she's an older mom she could be considered a high risk pregnancy. She may have to take it easy the last couple months of the pregnancy. I don't see anything wrong with having the shower early. This way she will know what she needs to get, herself.

Wow, a baby isn't even considered viable (sp?) until 24 weeks. Yep, thats really early for a baby shower. Relatives in town or not, I wouldn't want mine that early, but maybe thats just me!

Nope, nope and nope. this is baby number 3. after an eight year hiatus.;)

I asked why so early and they said. Oh you think it's early?

No bed rest, Mom teaches swimming to little ones. And it is a small shower just us in the neighborhood.
Unfortuneatly, I will not be there. as we will be away. It sure was fun buying all those baby things today though!

A friend of mine had twins last year and since she was high risk we had her baby shower 4 months early. Good thing too as she was put on bed rest that week with Dr's permission to attend the shower which was right next door to her house.

Not quite as early ... but

I was due Oct 15th for my first. My shower was scheduled for August 17th. I guess people were complaining that it was too early, but my SIL's were all in town at that time so they did the shower then.

The morning of my shower, I woke up and thought I had lost bladder control. I went to the hospital and sent me home. I had been having mild contractions and I was leaking fluid. I was put on bedrest for a week. The doctor talked to my DH and would not allow me to attend my shower. They had it without me. I didn't even know it was going on.

During the time of the shower, the leaking became more prominent so I went to the doctor again, they admitted me, and at bout 2AM they were able to determine that my water had broken, 8 1/2 weeks early. I stayed in the hospital for 2 1/2 weeks and I wasn induced at 34 weeks.

So maybe the reason is because people will be in town then and they are concerned about the possibility of complications.

Maybe she's a high risk pregnancy (since you said she's an older Mom), and there's a good chance she may be on bedrest closer to her due date. In that case, I actually think it's a great idea to do the shower so far out!

I'd personally be afraid to have a baby shower that early, but then again, I'm very superstious. I would be afraid that it would be a bad omen to have it that early. Not at all logical, I am afraid, but there you have it.

I say if the mom to be is comfortable with it, then no problem.

the only thing I can think of is that they think Sept, Oct. and November are busy months that no one would find the time to attend. ???? Either that or they're so gosh darn excited that they can't wait.:hyper:

I didn't even know people did showers for third babies! I thought that was usually reserved for firsts! I too would be afraid to have it THAT early!

We are giving my cousin a baby shower this month - her due date isn't until November. Her pregnancy has been a little difficult and her doctor does not want her traveling after the end of August. She only lives about 3 hours away from where the shower will be.

they had a shower for my stepson's girlfriend on June 27 and she's not due till the beginning of Oct...so maybe it's a new trend..don't care for it if it is..still think too much chance of something happening when it's that far away!

Maybe someone is coming by then? My wedding shower was held the weekend it was held because that was the weekend my best friend could fly in from England.
