Hi I am waiting for a Manager to call me back on splitting my DVC contract between BLT/AKV. If it works out ok I am going to ask for a Use Year of December.

We aren't going until Dec 2010 (which means I will have Dec 2009 & Dec 2010 points to play with), and then we won't go again until Aug 2012 (so I will use Dec 2011 points, but also want to be able to use any leftover 2010 points that I bank). Then after than we will go in May one year and October the next, and then miss a year (in effect using 18mths of points each trip).

Will a Dec use year be the best thing for me in this instance??

Sorry but I don't really understand the Use Year thing!!:rolleyes1

Amy,
I think I posted this to you on another thread, but how about April? With April UY, you have 8 months (until November 30th) to bank points. That even works for Dec vacation since your 31 days prior (what you need to do in order to have the points not go into holding) would fall in November--you would still have times to bank.

All your other trips full within your 8 month booking window. So, you would have April 09 and 10 points for Dec, 2010 trip. April 11 & 12 for Aug 2012 trip,.

Dec UY is not really ideal for October travel is if you have to cancel, those points would expire on Nov 30th (unless you cancel by July 31st). And, if you had to borrow points for an Oct trip, and had to cancel, you would only have 1 month to use those points since once borrowed, they can never be returned!

Good luck!!!

I was stressing about him ringing back and I have posted on so many threads the last few days, that I couldn't find your other answer again, sorry Sandi!!:lmao:

If I go with an April year, will I be able to bank any left over 2010 points for a Aug 2012 holiday, or do they expire before then??

Sorry to be dumb, but I for some reason have a mental block when it comes to this use year thing!!:goodvibes

Have you read the thread on Understanding Use Year?

Make yourself the charts for December use years and you can probably answer your own questions with confidence. :)

Use year selection depends on your travel pattern. Will you usually be traveling in December? If not, a December use year may not be very good for you.

Use year is important if you have to cancel a vacation that occurs late in your use year. If you never or seldom cancel a scheduled trip, use year doesn't matter much.

No, those April 2010 points, banked into April 2011, would expire by March 31st, 2012.

So, Dec 09 and 10 would pay for Dec 2010 trip. Bank points to 2011. Banked 2010, Dec 2011, and borrowed Dec 2012 would be used for Aug 2012, correct? When is the next trip? Are you going to be in the same situation?

In only things, IMO, is that Dec UY is probably the worst one you can get for October trips and if that is going to be one of your prime travel times, it is something you should think about.

Good luck!!!

It really pays to take the time to read Moderator CarolMN's Understanding Use Year thread :thumbsup2

If possible, you'd want to travel in first 8 months of your Use Year which would then give you the opportunity to bank the CURRENT UY points used in that reservation AND cancellation of that reservation must be done at least 31 days or more before check-in date in order to bank.

Again, ONLY CURRENT USE YEAR points used in reservation may be banked (& cancellation made
31+days before) so be aware if the reservation contains any banked or borrowed points that those banked &/or borrowed points are not ever bankable & would need to be used by the end of the Use Year - if you travel in first 8 months of your UY that would still leave you 4 months to utilize the banked &/or borrowed points that your reservation may contain.

Good luck & hope to welcome you home real soon :goodvibes:yay:

Seriously, I wouldn't worry about it at all. Sounds like you'll be traveling at different times during the year. So a good use year for one trip will be a bad use year for another. You've got 50 years of trips ahead of you. It'll mostly even out in the end.
