If my 3 (well, she will almost be 3) year old daughter is tall enough, we will take her on Soarin.

She is very, very close to the height requirement, so it is a possibility she will be able to squeak by when we go in September.

I'm a little apprehensive about it just because we are up high and I have a horrible worry she will panic and try to get out. You know, the 99.99 percent chance that she will love it is marred by that .01 percent chance she will either scream and ruin it for everybody else or, even worse, try to get out of her seat.

Anybody ever taken a young 3 on Soarin'? How did it go?

If it was open 2 years ago, then yes I did take my 3 year old on it. The littler kids have to put a strap between their legs that the seatbelt goes through so they are more secure.
I think mine are tall enough that they don;t have to do that, but I still make them because I worry about slipping(I have a fear of heights though).

But if I had any inkling that my child might try to get out, I wouldn't take them.

ETA: It opened in May 2005, so my son was 3 almost 4 when he went on in August 2005.

I would definitely take a 3 year old who makes height on Soarin'. They'll be locked in with a strap between their legs (as JLV said), so no real chance of 'escape'. :)

My DD was 3 in April, and I'm hoping she's tall enough in Oct to go on it. She talks about it all the time. My other DD was 4 when she went on it the first time and was fine. As others said, there is an extra strap between them, and I'll still hold her hand.

took my 4yr (just turned 4, but is short) on Soarin. She's a ride wimp. Cried on Winnie the pooh!

Anyways, she sat next to me, was a little nervous, and then loved it. She rode it twice in a row.

As for the straps, they really need to be Houdini to escape.

Our tiny 6-year old was nervous, and got scared at first, but I told her to close her eyes. She was fine then, and gradually opened them and then LOVED IT!

I took my DS when he was a young four, and finally talked him in to trying it (and he refused to try much of anything without fits that trip) then he got buyers remourse when we got in there, so I calmly put his belt on, and the CM told him it would be fun, and I had a death grip on his shoulder to hold him down if need be! He settled in after that first rise up to the spot where you basically stay, and he LOVED IT!!!!

My favorite story about him is that he will sit around and sing "Yo ho yo ho a Pirates after me" to this day!

We took our 3 1/2 year old. She loved it! I will caution--I found the height requirements very strict on this ride. She was 41 1/2" in bare feet and made all the other 40" rides easily, but it seemed like she just barely made it on to this one. Plus, they measured at the beginning and again at the end of the line. Just FYI!

Mine too!!!!
Oh lord the fit he currently is throwing about "I don't want to go on dark rides" and he is five now!!!

I took my 3 year old (3 months shy of her 4th) on Soarin..she just barely made the height requirement but the CM did not even check her. She loved it and we rode it many times during our stay.

Thanks for all the help.

I don't want to talk it up in case she doesn't meet the height requirement, so I guess we will just play it by ear. If she does meet it, then maybe we will try. I feel better about her falling out after hearing the stories!

I'm not sure I'm clear on this height restriction.

On the Disney website it states 40". Does that mean 39" does not go on the ride at all, or are those the ones that will have the extra strap?

My 3 yo DS (then 4 months shy of 4th b-day) loved it. He is afraid of nothing, but I really don't think it is a scary ride at all.

You have to be at least 40" to ride at all. The strap is for those that are 40" and above, yet under the level of a mark on the ride seat itself (red arrow marks the spot). The first time we rode it, my DS9 (56" tall) was told to use the between-the-legs strap. The second time we rode it they said he didn't need it.

Thank you, I remember that now. We've only gone on it once, 2 years ago, and I didn't think my DS3 would be able to ride it yet.

My son was 3 1/2 when we took him and he loved it. There is nothing scary about it. Have fun!!!

We are going in 11 days and my 3 1/2 year old DS is 40.5 inches tall. We will try Soarin for sure; but I am wondering about Dinosaur, Big Thunder Railroad and Splash Mountain. Will he be too scared. Last year, on Goofy Barnstormer he didn't want to do it a second time.

My daughter was 2 the first time she went on this ride and she loved it. We are now still trying to talk her 10yr and 8yr old brothers into trying it.
