If so where did you stay and how did you find.

How easy was it to get to disney etc we are so used to the Disney Buses not sure whether we can do offsite now but the money saving me is tempted to try.

Thanks

I love being able to stay in 2-3 bedroom units for the price of a Disney Value room. But, I wouldn't even consider staying offsite without a car.

Not. At. All.

Years ago (2003)Disney did not offer the ME and wherever you were staying without a car you either has to take a taxi, car service or mears shuttle, We used Mears shuttle and it cost around 75$ round trip for 3 adults 1 child. We stayed at one of the I drive hotels that offered transportation to and from each parks. It was scheluded so you knew what times the buses were leaving and returning. We didn't have any problems at all with the buses except that there farther away in the parking lots of the parks. We had lots of resturants and fast food that were in walking distance so you weren't locked into eating in the parks which saves a ton of money. The hotel also offered transportation to US/IOA and sea world(which we also went to). There are alot of hotels to choose from I would probably try one of thr LBV hotels because they are closer to disney. Some are directly across the street from Downtown disney. If you want a good price go to hotwire and look under packages instead of hotels they'll list the actuall names of the hotels so you know what your choosing plus you will get a rental car if you purchase the package for a good price. Hope this info helps out. What are your dates? The biggest thing most people will tell you is that you will loose the EMH but my family avoids them like the plague:rotfl2:

Oh we avoid the EMH to even staying on property they are a real nightmare.

Well out dates are pretty far out at the moments Sept 17th for 17days with some flexibility

The DTD hotels do have the best offsite transportation. Even so, I'd categorize it as "barely tolerable."

If your going in september I would wait to april or may to see if disney offeres free dining like they have the last 3 yrs because then staying onsite will make a huge difference on your food cost. 17 days of food can cost quite a bit depending how many are going. If disney doesn't offer anything by June I would look into booking offsite at a condo or something that has a kitchen/fridge so your not eating out all the time. If you don't have a car you can order grocieries from garden grocers or walk/taxi to win dixie grocery store.

I don't drive and when it's not in my budget I stay at the DTD hotels. Transportation has always been fine because I only use these buses coming and going to the parks...once I'm in the parks it's all Disney transportation. I don't have little ones so I don't return to the hotel mid afternoon for a nap. That said, sometimes with all the resort fees and airport transportation it actually turns out to be cheaper staying onsite!

But I understand not wanting to drive. Don't let it hinder your vacation..accept the limitations and have a great time!

Most off site hotels have shuttles these days but you should check with the hotel on a few things first. Find out if the shuttle makes any additional stops. It can be pretty irratating when it takes several hours stopping at different hotels before getting to the parks. Most shuttles are free but it's not a bad idea to confirm this ahead of time with your hotel. Also find out what the policy is if the shuttle runs out of room.
We used them when we stayed at the Ramada Maingate West and didn't have any problems. It picked us up in the morning and dropped us off at night and while we were in the park we used Disney transportation. We didn't have little ones with us so there was never any issue.
One last note, if you don't have a car try to find a hotel with a shuttle to the airport. It will costs about $50 each way to take a taxi.
