Anyone Stayed in the Paddocks?

Was curious if anyone had stayed in the Paddocks at SSR and how they found the walks to be to get to AP or the main pool. The Springs and Congress Park both look to be a reasonable distance, but Paddocks seem to be out in the middle of nowhere.

We did in October of 2005 and I have to say we loved that section. We were in unit #5811, which is the third building in as you drive from the main road. We had a quiet pool and bus stop located right next to our building. Walk to the Springs pool and AP was around 5-8 minutes. Now this was with two kids and my elderly, parents (both of whom are pretty feeble). There was bridge right behind our building that took us over to the main area, if you were in the other area of the Paddocks, I would imagine that walk would be a bit further but still not a bad one. To me it didn't seem as bad as when we were in the far out area of POR. We also had a really lovely view of one of the lakes out our balcony as well as a pretty courtyard below. I much preferred that over the view we had in the Springs which was the main drag, right across from the pool and where the buses went. Another nice thing about the Paddock is it is the first to be picked up and dropped off on the bus route. We stayed in the Springs area in January and it was nice to be near the main pool but DH and I both agreed we might have preferred the Paddock just a bit more. Our kids certainly enjoyed having the quite pool and hot tub to themselves on more than one occasion! My conclusion after having the "best" locatioin vs. the "worst" location is that they both have advantages for my family. From now on I won't stress about what I get as long as its non smoking!

And actually when I look at my map, it looks to me like the furthest building of Congress park (units 1101-1436) would be the furthest from the main area. But I am terrible at reading maps!

We stayed there in mid July 2005 in room #4521 I believe. It was the 1st building of The Paddock, 1st floor. I loved the decor. Wasn't fond of the location. We had a studio and being there in July it was very hot. I love walking, but not in extreme heat. I prefer BWV or BCV where even though you walk some..it's in the A/C. Being that we were in a studio we had to drive or walk up to AP when we wanted something. We did go up to the pool a few times, but what was nice about The Paddock was that it wasn't that crowded at the time (I believe it had just opened) and we pretty much had the quiet pool to ourselves every night (and the laundry room, too). CP and the Boat launch was really far from where we were and we did have a bus stop right outside our door. DD and I used it one night coming home from DTD. We were the last stop when they were letting people off at SSR. I would stay there again, but only in cooler months and when my youngest is a few years older as well as when they get a better restaurant.

We just got back from SSR (3/17 - 3/22) and stayed in the Paddocks. We usually end up in Congress Hall, so we were excited to see a different building. It was a later than usual check-in for us (6pm) so we were also excited to find out that our room was on the 3rd floor with a water view. We confirmed the room was non-smoking and headed over...

When we walked into the room (#6347) it smelled very strongly of smoke. The non-smoking indicator was at the front door, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt and chalked it up to "stuffiness". I decided to open the doors to the balcony to air out the room a little and found a pile of used pool towels on the balcony. Strange...but I still didn't think too much of it. The maid probably just forgot they were out there, right? :sad2:

As we continued to unpack, it became very clear that the room hadn't been fully cleaned prior to our check-in. Besides the smokey smell and dirty towels on the balcony, we found hair in the bathtub, popcorn in the minibar sink, Cheerios under the table, and soda spilled in the refrigerator. The worst part was turning down the bed and seeing dirty (yes, dirty) sheets and dead gnats. :furious:

We called the Front Desk to request a full Housekeeping service immediately. Since we had already unpacked, we didn't want to switch rooms. Once Housekeeping arrived (after 3 follow-up calls) we found out that our room keys had been disabled because somebody at the Front Desk assumed we were switching rooms. We eventually got new keys and a clean room, but we spent so much time getting everything straightened out that by the time it was done, the parks were closed. We never had any problems before at SSR, but this time things seemed a little off.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention that it seemed like we were the only people staying in that section of the Paddocks. We never saw any other guests, cars, or lights on in other rooms the whole time we were there. I'm sure we'll stay there again, but I'll definitely give the room a thorough inspection before we unpack.

Finally something positive about SSR. This resort has been taking a pounding lately. I personaly like the place. We've only stayed in The Springs though. The Paddock section was still under construction last June.

This wasn't my intention, but it's strange to me that there aren't many questions or answers here about details of SSR, just a whole lot of whining. SSR is our home resort and we bought it because we honestly love it. I can't wait until we make our first trip home. I'm curious to know more about the actual logistics of my home to help me plan my trip better.

I've stayed at SSR, so I can help you with some info. But like I said, only the Springs and Congress park were open.

I know what you mean! I really have spent very little on the DVC side of disboards. I have posted many times on Theme Park Strategies, Resorts and Disneyland but never visited her much because I felt like my DVC guide had answered my questions about SSR and DVC to the point there wasn't a lot I needed to know. And since I am a points dummy, I can't answer those kind of technical questions! But recently I did visit over here to learn about BWV and discovered that A) a lot of people hate SSR and think its owners are second class citizens out to rid rightful BWV and BCV owners of their beloved rooms and B) I made the ultimate offense when I booked BWV for a change of pace after two SSR stays! DH and I have just made a pact that we will stay at each and every WDW resort before our son graduates and since we were able to book BWV at six months out no problem (could have had BCV too) it seemed like a fun idea.

Frankly, I almost feel like switching back to SSR for our April trip, because I love it and feel very comfortable staying there. God help me if any BWV owners find out who I really am at the pool sometime! In any case, you will love SSR, we had two, perfect, wonderful stays there and if I never stay anywhere else at WDW again, will consider myself blessed in life! And again, the Paddocks is not a bad walk to the main area in my opinion. Oh, and one more thing, DH and I chatted several times with people in the hot tub at SSR and twice met people who owned at other DVC resorts and it never occurred to me to feel like they had sucked up the inventory from us SSR people. In fact one of the guys owns at BWV and told us we were crazy to stay there over Saratoga Springs. Go figure :confused3 .

I have stayed at SSR 3 times now. The first two times I was in Congress Park, and in January I was in the Paddock. In my opinion the walk from Congress Park is pretty much the same as the walk from the Paddock. I find it hard to look at the Disney maps and get the right perspective on the size of the resort. What I would be more concerned with is the locations of the buildings in the Fourth Phase. These are going to be a bit farther away from the Main Pool.

WE stayed in the paddock section last DEc and it quickly became my DH's favorite. He loved to walk to DTD, the accomodations lovely ,the view was wonderful and he just thought it was great for his daily walk.

We stayed there in 10/05, and loved it! We had origianlly requested the Springs, but they were full since we arrived late. By the end of our trip,we decided we really liked the Paddocks and the nice little walk to the main building. Good exercise! :thumbsup2
