We just got back from SSR (3/17 - 3/22) and stayed in the Paddocks. We usually end up in Congress Hall, so we were excited to see a different building. It was a later than usual check-in for us (6pm) so we were also excited to find out that our room was on the 3rd floor with a water view. We confirmed the room was non-smoking and headed over...
When we walked into the room (#6347) it smelled very strongly of smoke. The non-smoking indicator was at the front door, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt and chalked it up to "stuffiness". I decided to open the doors to the balcony to air out the room a little and found a pile of used pool towels on the balcony. Strange...but I still didn't think too much of it. The maid probably just forgot they were out there, right?
As we continued to unpack, it became very clear that the room hadn't been fully cleaned prior to our check-in. Besides the smokey smell and dirty towels on the balcony, we found hair in the bathtub, popcorn in the minibar sink, Cheerios under the table, and soda spilled in the refrigerator. The worst part was turning down the bed and seeing dirty (yes, dirty) sheets and dead gnats.
We called the Front Desk to request a full Housekeeping service immediately. Since we had already unpacked, we didn't want to switch rooms. Once Housekeeping arrived (after 3 follow-up calls) we found out that our room keys had been disabled because somebody at the Front Desk assumed we were switching rooms. We eventually got new keys and a clean room, but we spent so much time getting everything straightened out that by the time it was done, the parks were closed. We never had any problems before at SSR, but this time things seemed a little off.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention that it seemed like we were the only people staying in that section of the Paddocks. We never saw any other guests, cars, or lights on in other rooms the whole time we were there. I'm sure we'll stay there again, but I'll definitely give the room a thorough inspection before we unpack.
