I am interested to hear comparisons between the GV at these two resorts. We've got GV booked at SSR (where we own) for January, but might be interested in switching to OKW at the 7 month window to save some points.

Thanks in advance for any details you can share!

In Jan you may be able to get a GV at OKW but it maybe a problem. I haven't seem in person the GV at SSR but I know it is smaller. The GV at OKW are just beautiful and very large. The points are lower so it is for sure a better deal. I am sure Disney realized when they set points at OKW that they could get more for the future ones. They have all others at higher points. I think they also realized that we needed the GV option at other locations and they put in GV's at SSR. If you want more room for less points, I would try for OKW. It may work for you. As far as location, it is just about the same at OKW as SSR. OKW has the master on the ground floor with an extra bath outside the master bedroom. There are 2 bedrooms upstairs with 2 baths. They have full size washers and dryers. Lots of seating in the living room with a table for 8 and a smaller table for 4. We would never stay in a GV at any other location because of size and points. We own at OKW and have since 1994. I forget, we were upgraded to a GV at BWV once. It is very nice but smaller. It was a handicapped and faced the boardwalk. It was all on one floor. They had overbooked at OKW and we needed a handicapped. Good luck with you choice.

The GVs at OKW are marvelous and huge, but they are NOT on the ground floor. There is only 1 GV on the ground floor. All others are on the second and third floor of the buildings. I'm not positive, but I think the only ground floor GVs are in building 16.

We stayed at an SSR GV in Dec 04. It was in Congress park and was beautiful! It was two floors and had 2 bedrooms / 2 baths/ and laundry upstairs. The 1st floor had the main king bedroom and 2 full baths! The decor was amazing and the view from the living room was incredible! We could see the fireworks at night from DD! It was a great stay and worth every single point! :)

We have stayed in GV in OKW more than once and they are exceptional. Also have toured the SSR GV and they are just as nice. One major difference I noted was that the two upstairs bedroooms at SSR also have their own entrance(Like a 2br lockoff) while the OKW GV has only the main entrance.

I wish we would have toured the SSR GV last year, but I kind of forgot to. We have stayed in the OKW GVs numerous times, and really like them except for one small flaw. If you have a large group who all likes to work in the kitchen at the same time, it is a bit cramped in the corner where the sink and stove are. Not quite sure why they put the sink so close to the corner like that, but it is not terribly handy.

Thanks for the comparisons! It sounds like we'll be perfectly happy at either one -- perhaps more so at OKW if it saves us enough points for another trip!

I talked with a lady at OKW last week who has stayed there in GV lots, with lots of extended family. She commented that the floor plan at OKW was more open, making it easier to gather a large group (she mentioned a pizza party for 35) than at SSR, where the GV's floor plan is more of a separate dining, living and kitchen area.

It surprises me that SSR put the laundry on the 2nd floor -- does anybody know if it's a stackable, or a full size like at OKW? And where's the laundry at the OKW gv?

Thanks again for the help.

THe laundry room in the OKW GV is just off the kitchen (kind of behind the stairs), and it is huge! We stored extra groceries, pop, wet bathing suits and even suitcases in there! We love the openness of the OKW GV. We had 12 in it last OCtober, and we were never cramped. We did end up eating at both tables, but we rotated who sat at the big table and who sat at the smaller one. I prefer the smaller one anyway! ;)

The GV at SSR has the stacked washer and dryer. We stayed there in Jan and loved it. We have stayed in a GV at OKW twice and love it there also (OKW was our 1st purchase). The GV at SSR is smaller, but you don't mention how large your group is. Our Jan trip included 4 Pleasure Island almost 30 somethings. We loved the separate entrance on the second floor. They did not wake us in the wee hours. SSR is elegant and OKW is laid back, that's just my opinion. You can't go wrong either way.

I was shocked by the size of the laundry room in the 1 BR! I was expecting what we had at HHI, which was a regular closet with stacking machines, and a little room on the side for the vac and such. We kept all kinds of stuff in the laundry ROOM (not closet!!) at OKW. I can't believe the points are so cheap for that place.

If you thought the laundry room in the 1 bedroom was large, you will die when you see the GV laundry room! It is more the size of a bedroom!

We'll have 6 adults (3 couples) with 5 children. Sounds like we can put the 2 yr old's portacrib in the laundry room! :rotfl:

I like the idea of the separate entrances in the SSR one. Basically, I really would like to conserve the points, but if there's no GV available at OKW when I call in July, then c'est la vie, and we'll have ourselves a fabulous time at SSR.

Those seperate entrances intrigued me too, and it's why I wish I would have remembered to tour the SSR GV. I HAVE seen photos, and that GV looks a bit more chopped up and not as spacious as the OKW one. We usually give each family group staying with us their own room at OKW. Even though there are not seperate entrances, there is not much of an issue, since the common area is so large and the entrance door is off of that.

We toured the SSR GV in March. I haven't seen the OKW GV, but the SSR one is plenty big! So elegant - I could move right in. On the 2nd floor there is a large open landing area between the two bedrooms - plenty big enough for a porta-crib.

OKW has the bridge area between the bedrooms upstairs that would work for that as well, but not sure I would want to do that because it is above the common area below.
