We've always stayed on site at POR, but it seems a bit cramped for a family of five. I can't justify the cost of the deluxe hotels, this hilton looks to have two double beds and a fold out couch. Also, transportation to the four theme parks and extended park hours. Anyone with personal experience from this location?

My folks stayed there two years ago I believe. They had a corner room and it was really nice and spacious; definitely bigger than a room at POR. I don't know if a non-corner room would be.

I recall my mom saying the transportation was really good and they did get to participate in EMH. You can walk from the Hilton to DTD which is nice. My parents said they did that quite a few times when they stayed there.

I can tell you the food area they have there is really nice. it is not a food court but more like a little grocers. (I believe they have a couple restaurants too) This little food area though has premade items, pastries and has a really great coffee bar that serves Strabucks (both brewed and espresso)

I don't know if you are a coffee drinker but I think Disney's coffee is garbage. (Please lord may the Nescafe contract die someday) We usually head over to the Hilton to grab a latte a couple of times during our trips.

If you decide to stay there sign up for Hiltons HHonors program so you can earn points. You will get points for your room plus anything you charge to your room (food, anythign from the gift or sundry store). After you have earned enough points you can trade them in for stays at any Hilton hotel.

They also have a double dip program where you can earn airline miles too whcih is nice and helps you build up to get free airline tickets. When you sign up for the HHonors program you can give them your airlines frequent flyer number.

We stayed there a couple of years ago. The room was spotless clean. We had a room with a king and a desk, (with DH and I that's preferable) and it was very roomy. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat.

And I also loved the little grocer/snack bar type place in the lobby!

This is great information, we may just consider this, but it's so hard to make the leap from on-site hotels. But our family is getting too large to use the POR trundle and we don't want to pay the deluxe 5 person prices and POP is too chaotic for me (adjoining rooms).

I totally can understand. We generally stay at Hiltons when we travel elsewhere and when my parents stayed at the WDW one I thought "but it is not a Disney resort!"

However, you are across the street from DTD...in fact you are probably the same walking distance as SSR. Not sure if you know the exact locale of the Hilton (or are looking at the same one we are talking about there is more than one in Orlando) but the one the other poster and I are commenting on is indeed on Disney property.

Here is the link to the one I am referring to which is on Disney property:

It's actually a much closer walk than SSR.

(using DS name/computer) as we are currently in Orlando :cool1:

Stayed at DTD Hilton twice. Two doubles - no sofabed. Would double check that information to make sure the room you are looking at price wise includes a sofabed. Very nice beds and rooms nice. Loved the big pool area and the few steps over to DTD. We had executive lounge access so that was nice. I did drive from there but the folks waiting for buses were never big.
