We are headed there in February, just wondering if it's totally weird with the rest of the resort being closed. I don't think it will bother us, but I just wonder if the experience will be disappointing? Just curious what others have experienced while staying there.

The pool and the beach seemed lively; not packed, but certainly busy. I try to run in the mornings, and the lower capacity made it easy to avoid people on the paths. We ate at Kona twice, and while certain parts of the Grand Ceremonial House were shut down, it wasn't distracting.

I just stayed at the Poly from 12/6 to 12/10 and absolutely fell in love with it  It was weird seeing all the non-DVC buildings dark at night so there was a bit of a deserted feeling but it was nice at the same time :goodvibes The construction was really a non-issue as they do most of it at night. One night I was walking and could actually see them soldering up on the Ceremonial House beams! Some nights I did hear a metal on metal banging but it was not very disruptive and it actually took me some time to figure out that it was connected to the construction :rotfl2:The Ceremonial House is quiet but Kona Café is still open as is Capt. Cook's so there are nice food options available. Plus you can always go to the other monorail resort restaurants. It is an easy walk to the Ticket and Transportation Center to get the monorail so that was not a big deal.

I had mixed feelings about it.
On the one hand there's a nice quietness uncharacteristic of the Poly, especially around O'Hana where I'm used to seeing people sprawled out on the furniture absorbed in their phones. On the other, it feels just short of the full experience with the monorail down, inability to view the front of the resort, no O'Hana and, maybe small but especially for us, construction along the outset of the walkway between Poly and GF (probably a transient thing i.e. like just this week) which made even our walk to the Grand's monorail feel a little cramped. There were dividers up and we could still sneak by with apologies to the workers.

By the way I'm one of the many who switched a Jan trip from PVB to elsewhere (CCV) when I thought the changes at the Poly would be greater than they've in fact turned out to be (I thought the entire lobby/GCH would be off-limits). Now that I've seen the changes in-person I briefly considered changing our 2bdr at CCV back to 2 Poly studios (which are still available, incredibly) but I think I've decided not to do it

Thanks for your input! We love staying in the Polynesian and I'm thinking it will be enjoyable to be in a nice quiet resort. Is the quiet pool and pool bar closed?

The Oasis Pool (the “leisure” pool to use Disney’s term, or what many guests/DISers label as the “quiet” pool) is open. Hours are 7am-11pm.

The Oasis Pool Bar & Grill remains closed (unfortunately). The Barefoot Pool Bar at the Lava Pool (the feature pool) is open.

We recently stayed too, and it was wonderful. We love Poly normally, but it was more relaxed and peaceful this time.
