We are going to be getting a front loader washer and dryer. I found out there is a kit to stack them, like you see displayed in the store. If I do this I will have enough room to have a cabinet with counter top to fold clothes on where the dryer would have been.
My dad told my DH today that I will hate it. I stood in front of them at the store and I can easily reach into both. The only thing that could possibly be an issue is I am short, but I don't remember having any trouble reaching the controls on the dryer.
Has anyone ever done this, and did you like it/hate it?

My mom has a stacking w/d. Stacking them allows for enough room for a utility sink in her laundry room. The dryer isn't too high and the whole set-up is very compact; you don't have to bend & stoop over when you move stuff from the washer to the dryer . . .but she has a top loading washer with the dryer over it. Will your Dad & DH do the laundry? I would go for it.

At the house we moved out of back in March, I had a Miele w/d that I had put under the counters; I had lots of counter space to fold clothes. Loved it. Now we have a Samsung steam w/d; and they both are front loading & we used the tops to fold stuff.

We have ours stacked and I will admit that the washer is low and requires bending. But we love the space it gave us. We were able to put in four shelves where the dryer would have been.

My mom used to have them and DD's IL's got them last year.. Everyone loves them!! :thumbsup2

Mine are stacked because I live in an apartment and need all the room I can get. ;) I like them that way. I can see how it could potentially be an issue for someone who's shorter than I am, but being 5'9", I'm good with it.

Ours are stacked and after 3.5years, I honestly can't wait till we move so I can have side by side machines. Problem is ours are pretty large. So while I am stretching onto my toes to be sure I got every sock out of the dryer, I still have to bend (often sit now that I'm pregnant!) to get the stuff out of the washer. It's just much easier when I'm at my mom's, for example, when I can just pull stuff out of the washer and right into the dryer. No lifting up and down, over and over.

I have them stacked at my summer cottage because there is no room to have them next to each other. The front loading washer is on the bottom & dryer is on the top. You have to bend down to get the clothes in & out of the washer. I used to have a top loading washer there before & liked that better.
