Anyone shooting full frame?

Looking to make the leap from a crop sensor to a full frame camera. Mainly for the better viewfinders, better color reproduction and high ISO capabilities. I am really interested in the D700 and the 5D Mark II, both in their kit form. Anyone have experience with these? Also was it worth the extra cost to you over the crop bodies?

I love my full frame! The only complaint I had when I first got it I had difficulty with my compositions. It kind of messed me up for a while. So I had to really work, for about 2 months, on getting my comps back to where I felt comfortable again. But that is my own personal issue and not one with the camera! You can't complain about the noise at high ISO's though. Love that I can go into any situation and shoot and feel confident.

This was taken at 12,800 ISO on Monday night. The only light in the car was from my daughter's DVD player. It's auto white balance and a SOOC shot (resized for web). No noiseware was used.

D3, 24-70 f2.8 lens
ISO 12,800, f2.8, 1/25 (I am pretty proud that it's fairly sharp handheld in the car), 66mm

On one of my pro-photo boards had an article about the comparisons between the Canon 1D, 5DMII, Nikon D700 and D3. The article said that the D700 was the winner. Take that with a grain of salt... but the performance out of both the D700 and the 5DMII is outstanding.

I love my D700- and I bought it pretty much for the ISO and the viewfinder. And those things are great but now I really love it because the fx sensor just has a certain look and feel to it. I can't really put my finger on it but I feel like every lens I have in my bag just got way better. Not necessarily sharper- just better- yummier- kind of hard to explain but it is a sweet camera.

OK... I TOTALLY have to agree with that statement! It made me laugh though to hear it described like that. But yeah, everything just is nicer.

Thanks for the replies so far. This is a huge purchase to put it lightly, fortunatly I have a very supportive wife and she is willing to invest our tax return into me in the hope of starting a photography business on the side. You really can't ask for better than that.

As far as kit's are concerned is the Nikon 24-120 any good? Or would I be better off investing in a Tamron 28-75 f/2.8? Thanks

I shoot with a Canon 5D (the first one) and I cannot imagine EVER going back to a non full frame camera. I have my XTi as a back up, but I haven't picked it up in the almost year that I've had the 5D.

I would if I could afford it. However, between the price difference and the shutter speed difference, I went with a new 40d vs. a used 5DmI. I also considered a used 1DmII which would have been a nice compromise.

Maybe in a couple of years.
