Anyone see this yet ? I hope he changes his mind

For annual passes, they have had some time to study the Disneyland Flex Pass with good to go days or reservations required. Could still park hop if dates had multiple park availability. I can see them looking into no fastpass availability until in the park that day, with one fastpass at a time, like at Disneyland using the app. (Kiosks for those without). Park Hopper bought tickets would still be available.

Elaborate on how that works, as I've never been to DisneyLand, only DisneyWorld

Disneyland has not had fastpasses prior to park entry. With the Disneyland app it was gotten easier. Once you scan into (card or phone used instead of magic bands) either Disneyland or California Adventure you can use the app to book a fastpass for either park for your selected party (if have a hopper ticket or annual with hopper option). Once you have a fastpass, you are given a time when you can acquire your next fastpass. One of their annual passport options became the Flex Pass, it was cheaper than a more premium pass but has reservations involved with it. (How it works is on their website). Hope explains. Disneyland runs on a whole different system. We all are still waiting for our return and what changes will be made.

Maybe they will allow you to park hop but by booking in advance? Just might take a bit more planning.
Just what's needed for my Disney vacation, a little more planning to add to the 180 day dining reservations, 60 day fp+ that you can't always get in the park with your dining reservation, park hours changes etc. Not even going near the multitude of festivals, and special events to try to avoid because of the crowds. I love my Disney vacation, but more planning is definitely not what I need. :crazy2:

I don't see the issue honestly. People are upset right now because AP locals are being locked out. That is because they have drastically reduced park capacity.

Think about it this way how many times in the entire year do you not get in to the park you want? Maybe 3 days? Those are the only days where park reservation would matter.

Park hopping could simply be same day queue system (again which likely would never be filled) and would give you lets say 1hr to make it to the other park before releasing your reservation. Possibly the app could verify when you board Disney transportation to lock in your reservation as they know you are on the MK bus from AK.

I see pretty much zero impact long term since I never would go when a park would be locked down anyways.
The issue here is for example, the one day we had Epcot when we went in Aug was the day Test Track was broken all day and that was the only day we had a park pass, so that was the only chance. Park hopping would allow us to come back another day and get it. Also if they keep the one park a day, that means more money for Disney, since it may require you to take longer vacations to get more park time in.

There is no issue long term though (yes there is an issue now until the end of 2020 because of highly reduced park capacity).

Park hopping is being sold on tickets starting January 1st, 2021. So there will absolutely be park hopping at some point in 2021 with my guess being January 1st.

There is zero and I mean zero factual information of Disney not bringing back park hopping. Actually the only thing Disney has done points directly to it coming back.

I think he definitely means it (park reservation system) will stay. For one thing it can be a money maker for them. Also the biggest complaint from guests prior to COVID was, the parks were too crowded. People will gladly accept anything that means less crowds. It also discourages the local use of annual passes which is a money drain. They can easily add park hopping to it, by allowing one to book another park after one leaves the current one. Again that allows them to control occupancy.

What is here to stay exactly in your mind?

Park reservation system. Many people that work for Disney have said it has been discussed as it will stay.

So in the last 49 years at MK they have closed to capacity 10-15-20 days in total. That will have 0 impact on the normal guest, during anything but extremely high demand days, and likely there will be specific access for onsite guests as well for priority.

It will not forbid you from going same day or park hoping as they are already selling those tickets.

Some of us are upset because passholders who don't live in Florida are also locked out. Non-local passholders don't have as much flexibility to go some other time if their preferred park days are not available.

Except again you are talking about a 6 month period until January. You also had a chance to get a refund on your AP. Finally you as a AP holder from out of state would be able to book reservations for the length of your stay in 2020 under these unprecedented times.

This whole thread is about LONG TERM not a 6 month window.

I don't know how long we will be locked out. Didn't want a refund; would rather have park access. The length of stay theme park reservations are for those staying onsite. Some passholders sometimes stay offsite.

This greatly reduces the value of resorts like boardwalk where we would go to a park but always end up at Epcot to get dinner.
If anything it might make it easier to grab standard studios at BWV at the 11 month window

Looking back on our past trios, even with APS, we would rarely PH or pool hop for that matter.

I do want to see New APS sold. Would buy non PH ones if price reflected a reasonable discounted price

I have teens and one of our favorite things to do is go to all four parks in one day and ride one or two of our favorite rides. A park reservation system would put an end to that, or make it much more complicated. I am strongly against any change that makes an already very complicated vacation even more complex to navigate.

Those of you who think it will somehow be used to reduce crowds are being overly optimistic. Disney has shown at every turn that they want to pack the parks, and there have been numerous complaints about overcrowded hard ticket events the past few years, which should, by their very nature, NOT be overcrowded. The only way the park reservations result in less crowded parks is if ticket prices increase dramatically. They are not going to just let fewer people in and make less money by charging the same prices and requiring you to make a reservation first. Remember the mantra that people like to repeat, Disney is a business first. The park reservation system will be used to maximize their profits, not to reduce crowds.

Regardless of how many times they have closed the parks, guests have complained loudly about how crowded it is. As to how many they will allow in when numbers reach normal, it's a wait and see. I definitely think there will be priority given which is why I think it will stay.

Only thing I think of is possibly the booking 60 days out with FP+ (or whatever they do) is going to "even" out crowds (even does not mean same number of people but percentage of people based on what each park can handle).

They allow park hopping and day of changes as well but the reservation gets you the ability to book your FP+ without the reservation no FP+ until day of.

This pushes the crowds around where they want them, opens up FP+ availability some, and possibly allows them to limit prebookings. They could even possibly have limited reservations but you can enter the park regardless if you have a reservation. Maybe paid FP+ (prior to the day of booking) if you didn't get a reservation which is capped at 25% or 50% of actual capacity or something and onsite guests always get their park.

Who knows but not buying in to the doom and gloom just might be some changes and new strats. Might just be more open to change than others around here I guess.

If they really cared about that, extending park hours is much more effective from my experience. I've gone during Easter with 7am starts and 12am (or later) closing and absolutely nothing beats it.
