Anyone see Coraline yet?

I want to see this movie so badly!
Noone will take me but hopefully I can convince today!

I saw it yesterday and I loved it. I did notice quite a few parents had brought very young children (like 2 and 3 years old) and there was quite a flurry of parents and children rushing out of the theater during the scenes with the other mother at the end of the movie.

wow, I guess I have proposed scary as different in our house. Since dd was born on Halloween, scary has always been fun. I really didn't see anything scary in it. Unless of course kids have never been exposed to anything scary.

I saw it last night....and I have to say I was pretty scared. It was a cute movie.. but not something I would bring my cousins too.

My DDs are 7 and 5 and I was just going to post to see if it was too scary or not. For reference, my DD5's favorite movie is the Haunted Mansion (the one w/Eddie Murphy). And both of them loved Dinosaur ride and any of the scary stuff at Disney. I'm thinking they'll be ok, but I'll just be prepared to leave if needed.

We saw it last night and my DS who just turned 5 loved it. As we were leaving the theater he said "mommy, we have to buy that one." I found some of it scary myself but I think he did not because he didn't really think about the story, just found it to be visually appealing. I think if a kids actually realized what the story is about, it is quite scary.
That's a good observation. My DS4 loves the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland, but my DS8 doesn't like it at all (he likes it with the holiday overlay, though, which is more cute than scary.) I wondered if it was because my DS8 understands more about the storyline and in general about how scary things can be. DS4 is still happily oblivious. I'm wondering if, in a year or two, he will suddenly refuse to go on the ride...

PSA: And I am NOT advocating everyone take their very young children to see the movie...

We went today and had to see the 3D instead of the 2D, because we just couldn't make it in time for the 2D seating. We sat close enough for DD9 to see without her glasses, but those things are so HUGE that she could have worn them over her regular glasses just fine.

I was suprised at how many parents were bringing in preschoolers.....Some as young as 2-3. Yes, a few had to leave. One was freaked out near the end when the Other Mother gets rather unpleasant, so her dad took her out. She was probably 4. DD9 loved it and wasn't scared once. I'd read that if the child liked Nightmare Before Christmas and didn't get scared by that, they'd probably be okay with Coraline. Well, DD9 wasn't scared at all by Nightmare Before Christmas and she was fine with Coraline as well.

MIL, on the other hand, was terribly disappointed. Why? :confused3 For some bizarre reason, even though she claimed she'd read the reviews, she was under the impression that Coraline was a COMEDY! :rotfl2: She goes to the movies all the time, so I know she's seen the previews. How anyone could get "comedy" from those previews is beyond me. I figured it was pretty obvious it was a dark sort of movie. Anyway, MIL expected a kid's comedy and kept waiting for the punchlines and funny parts......which never came. :lmao: Color her confused.

Just found this, thought I'd add my two cents.

A little "scary", animation was amazing, storyline kind of bored me. I guess I'm WAY too old for this! :lmao:

Actually Coraline is a childrens book. Gaiman wrote it for his daughters. It may not be all sunshine & rainbows but I wouldn't expect that from Gaiman, even in a childrens book.

Neil Gaiman wrote Coraline??? No idea!! Wow!!! I love his books!! Stardust is my favorite.

But back to Coraline.... I want to see it. It looks really really good. I might go over to DTD to the AMC Theaters one day soon and see it.

I was home sick and dh was taking my 4 kids to the movies- 2 olders were going to Coraline and he was going to Pink Panther with the younger 2.
Somehow they all ended up at Coraline. My 6 year old said it was scary but I loved it. My 11 year old said "Mom Stickers is in the movie!"

Stickers is the nickname she gave Naked Cowgirl in NYC. She said to me Mom why is that lady wearing just stickers? And Stickers was born. So I guess there is a cartoon version of a woman with pasties??

We went this past weekend...DDs are 7 and 4(almost 5)...both really liked it and neither of them thought it was scary at all. DH & I actually thought it was well done too. Our only issue was the 3D part really wasn't that 3D-ish, but whatever. We all liked it.
