Anyone scrap for hire?

Do any of you scrap for others? I'm thinking about trying to get something started in that area. I was wondering if anyone here ever did? I know so many people who have their pictures in a box - even their DISNEY pictures! I could so easily complete a family vacation album or two for them. What on earth would you charge???

Anyone have any thoughts?

not sure what the going rate is, but a few places that are on line charge A LOT OF MONEY for that service.

I suppose you would have to charge for the supplies/album/pages etc which would be a large part of your expeses, then your time..... so what price would you put on that?? many of the places that I saw on line charge per page or by the number of pictures.

If you don't charge that much, you won't make anything for your time or talent. I started a business doing this but the people I have attracted have wanted albums (blank with military logos), lessons (cheap), supplies to make their own (Memories in Uniform doesn't sell to the public anymore) and advice (free). http://www.kaleidoscope-of-memories.com

I wouldn't do it again, nor recommend it for others, unless they had a store to drive business to the business, as Mouse Memories does. There are plenty of interesting and fun projects to work on for self and gifts.

I saw a booth at a craft fair where they had pre-made books, mostly 8 x 8. They were also taking orders for custom made books. They had very simple pages - most of the had 3 photo mats for a 2 page spread and 1 journaling box but others just had 4 photo mats. There were quite a few people asking questions about the custom books.

Can't remember what the charged but I remember saying to dh when we walked away that the prices seemed high for what they were selling. They had also made packages of buttons, fibres or other embellishments that were much higher than I could find them for in a craft store. It looked like they had taken packages of buttons and divided them up into smaller packs then raised the prices.

hmm, thanks guys. I had looked online too..& thought "holy cow" that's a lot of money. I guess in reality if you could get one or two clients...that had money to burn it could work. But I'd have to think that most people in the world are just like us...trying to "save" some money and get a break here or there. I put some feelers out there to see if anyone I know, knows anyone...etc...I'll let you know if I get a nibble

Where do you find your clients? When you started? was it word of mouth? did you invest in advertising?? Sorry for throwing all the ?? but this is just something I know I'm good at, and know I could help people with.

This job pretty much fell into my lap. I work for a private (wealthy) family and I am their family historian. However, this job has provided other opportunities when people have heard what I do. I have done retirement albums for corporations and I did an album for a family on Extreme Makeover Home Edition. I dont advertise because I work at least 30 hours a week on what I already have now. Word of mouth works great. Just get samples of your work out there and let people know what you do. Good Luck!

I've scrapped for hire once and it was a LOT of work, much more so than I had thought. I got paid $15/page plus the cost of all of the supplies (12x12), so I ended up making about $350 for the album. However, the timeframe for getting the scrapbook done was so limited (it was for a 50th anniversary) that I spent the good part of 2 weeks doing nothing but the scrapbook. I was on OVERLOAD by the time it was completed and I didn't want to ever look at another scrapbook page. It literally took about 3 months before I wanted to even work on my personal pages, I was so fed up with it. I guess the point of my ramble is that if you do scrapbook for hire, make sure that you don't overwhelm yourself or neglect your own pages. Good luck!
